More info about Aliwal Shoal
Aliwal Shoal is located off the KwaZulu-Natal southern coast near Umkomaas and within a Protected Marine Reserve. The shoal consists mostly of undersea fossil dunes and drop-offs that have sheltered breeding fish for centuries and it’s here that divers flock to see the diverse marine life and experience close encounters with a number of shark species. The shoal is classified a subtropical reef and contains both hard and soft coral.
