North of Cape Town and a few kilometres inland of the Atlantic coast lie the Atlantis Dunes, a playground for lovers of motorised vehicles and sand boarders. It’s a stark white patch of pristine sand dunes set amongst evergreen fynbos that makes up an area known as the Atlantis Corridor Dunefield, some of the dunes dating back to 6500 BCE. The dunes are fed by shifting sands blown in by the South Easter, strong winds that occur during the summer months.
Tour operators offer sandboarding, quad biking and off-road motorcycle tours of Atlantis for visitors to have a blast riding the dunes, while 4x4 enthusiasts test their vehicles and driving abilities negotiating the thick sand on the established trail. Sandboarding and quad biking are popular choices for company team building events.
