Costa Sarda is a suburb in Knysna, situated north of Thesen Island, east of Knysna town centre, with a backdrop of thick forest and only steps away from the lagoon. The suburb of Costa Sarda is ideally located to enjoy this part of the Garden Route in the Western Cape Province of South Africa. Whoever named the suburb must have seen a likeness to the world famous Costa Smeralda in Sardinia.

Knysna is the most popular destination for travellers visiting the scenic Garden Route. The enchanting lagoon views and imposing cliffs, known as the Heads, are a magnet for anyone entering the town.

The beautiful, densely forested area surrounding Jubilee Creek is popular for hiking and mountain bike trails. It’s also a great place to enjoy a shaded picnic alongside the river.

The Knysna Elephant Park is sure to keep the family enthralled with a unique opportunity to engage with these magnificent giants.

Visit nearby Bollard Bay on Leisure Island to kite surf and kayak along the lagoon. For something more adrenalin charged, several tour operators offer hang gliding, abseiling (rappelling) and deep sea fishing adventures.

End the day with a sunset cruise on a 50 foot yacht that will take you through the lagoon and out to sea. Enjoy one of South Africa’s Methodé Cap Classique sparkling wines with a few finger snacks while on board.

The small but cozy Anchorage Restaurant specializes in fish dishes, you can share a gigantic seafood platter with your partner.   

Caffé Mario Restaurant is a traditionally vibrant Italian restaurant serving up authentic favourites. The veal dishes are superb.

Billed as a casual dining bistro, Café Z at Conrad Pezula hotel offers deliciously fresh and organic meals served at the whim of the chef and dependent on the ingredients in season.

Caroline’s Bistro was Knysna’s best kept secret. Situated at Belvidere Manor, patrons love the mouthwatering dishes on the frequently changing menu.

Night Life

Senza Knysna is popular for their weekend cocktail specials and stunning location with views of the Heads. Arrive in time to watch a sunset.

Bosun’s in Knysna is a typical British pub offering classic pub fare. Stop in to sample their craft beer on tap and for a lively discussion on the latest British Premier League matches.

Air The nearest airport is George Airport, 70km outside of Knysna.

Taxi There are a number of metered taxi companies in Knysna. Shuttle service operators transport visitors between George Airport and Knysna.

The man who produced the world's first live interactive TV education broadcast in the early 90s and helped countless students to pass mathematics, William Smith, was a past owner of the Featherbed Nature Reserve. He is now retired and lives in Knysna.

The 5-day Pink Loerie Mardi Gras and Arts Festival takes place in Knysna every year and is a highlight for the gay community (and lovers of festivals) to share in the over-the-top festivities put out by the organisers. The event is held to encourage acceptance and celebrate diversity.
