Dana Bay is often mistaken as another suburb of Mossel Bay, but in fact it is a very important conservancy within South Africa as it is home to fine coastal and limestone variations of fynbos. The limestone fynbos in particular, which is under threat from the effects of global warming, is rich in species and plays a crucial role in supporting a high number of endemic species throughout the floral kingdom. Because of its conservancy status, visitors to Dana Bay has the unique opportunity of not only viewing a marvellous array of dazzling plants, but the area is rich in wildlife too; steenbok, bushbuck, Cape Francolins, and mongooses roam freely throughout the area.
