2. Visit the South African Jewish Museum to learn of the fascinating history of Jews in South Africa spanning almost 200 years. The Holocaust Centre is part of the museum and has many poignant items on display.

There are major festivals that occur in Cape Town practically throughout the year, starting with the Malay Choirs Parade (previously the Cape Minstrels Carnival) on the 2nd January, through to gay parades, gourmet food festivals, an international cycle tour and marathon, summer open air concerts, Fashion Week – the list goes on and on. Transport
The nearest airport is Cape Town international, 22km from Higgovale. There are several car rental agencies in the main road down from Higgovale or at the airport upon your arrival in Cape Town, however, car rentals can be booked online. Uber operates in Cape Town, if you have the app, contact them for a ride. Other options are traditional taxis (Rikkis) or you could try taking the 3-wheeled motorised tricycles operated by the Monarch Tuksi Company.

Higgovale Quarry is a great spot for those interested in mountain climbing. There are several established routes bolted up this manmade cliff.
When travelling, you may notice the stone or umbrella pine tree scattered throughout Cape Town and surrounding areas. The seeds of the tree were brought here by Huguenots fleeing Europe in the late 1600s.
Much of the granite used to construct the impressive Rhodes Memorial on the Devil’s Peak slopes was obtained from the Higgovale quarry. The quarry closed down in 1906.
