The serenity, cleanliness, friendly people and just the overall beauty of nature in Hogsback.
Lots of lovely hikes in calm and quiet place. Just beware of the amount and severity of the potholes throughout the town, even in an SUV you are most certainly going to feel them and you certainly can't avoid them all. Go for the quiet and the beauty of the forests.

Beautiful scenery, so relaxing, great walks, plenty to do, birdwatching, delicious pancakes and toasted sandwiches, slow pace of life and the smallest ParkRun EVER!

Tired of all the usual holiday spots and want to experience a new scene? Then Hogsback is the location for you. Hogsback is one of the Eastern Cape’s most riveting locales and finds itself just an hour and a half out of Grahamstown. Hogsback is named after three mountain peaks which peculiarly resemble the wild hogs that can be seen around this area.
It also has some of the most dramatic scenery to be found anywhere in South Africa as it lies in close proximity to the foreboding Amatola Mountain ranges and is itself ensconced in a lush forested terrain. It is said to have been the inspiration behind JRR Tolkien’s legendary Lord of the Rings trilogy and it isn’t hard to see why. For those who are a little adventurous and enjoy the company of other travellers, you can decide to stay at a Backpackers. Often having to share a room with others as well as costs, it is incredibly inexpensive. Often the best choice for those who may be just passing through or will be occupied for the majority of their day. It comes with the most basic amenities and is often formed as part of a bar or similar establishment. Not recommended for those who want privacy, this is best suited for those who wouldn’t mind meeting various other interesting travellers.
