Hluhluwe–iMfolozi Park is the oldest nature reserve in Africa and is located in the northern section of the KwaZulu-Natal Province of South Africa. It’s from here that 5 exciting guided iMfolozi Wilderness Trails are conducted, through Big 5 country and across a range of landscapes. The park’s policy is that visitors follow a ‘minimum impact, no trace’ ethic and that they embrace the fact that in the park, the animal is king.
All wilderness trails begin at Mpila camp and the options include;
The 4-night Primitive Trail, where temporary camps are established out in the bush, water is collected from rivers and where bathing takes place, and participants are required to take turns standing guard over the camp.

Often having to share a room with others as well as costs, it is incredibly inexpensive. Often the best choice for those who may be just passing through or will be occupied for the majority of their day. It comes with the most basic amenities and is often formed as part of a bar or similar establishment. Not recommended for those who want privacy, this is best suited for those who wouldn’t mind meeting various other interesting travellers.
