More info about King Williams Town
King Williams Town started as a mission station back in 1834 and is one of the most history-laden towns of the Eastern Cape with a wonderful multitude of activities to enjoy. Just 50km outside of East London, King Williams town is also in close proximity to Bisho and Umtata – the area Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki both hail from. King Williams Town boasts a strong heritage with its many beautiful stone buildings strongly reminiscent of the Frontier Wars as well as a number of interesting museums all depicting the town’s colourful history and impressive cultural legacy. Top museums to visit here includes the magnificent Amathole Museum, which pays fantastic homage to the mammals of Africa with an exhibition said to be the biggest of its kind on the continent, while another must-visit museum houses the body of a hippo named Huberta who walked a staggering 1500km from the province of KZN to the Eastern Cape... About Guest Houses
For a more down to earth experience there are guest houses. Less expensive than hotels, they offer a more homey environment, as well as more privacy. Converted from a private house it’s a much gentler environment and for those with furry friends, there are also pet friendly options. They are usually well situated with shops and places of interest nearby. Being so small it offers a much more personal and intimate attention to it’s upkeep, leaving you with a more polished and homely experience.
