The suburb of Lagoon Beach is a small strip of prime beach property approximately 1km along the beachfront. On the northern end, the fresh waters of the Diep River flow into Table Bay. Lagoon Beach is a 15 minute drive from Cape Town city centre.
Prior to 1985 and the construction of Cape Town’s harbour and reclamation of land in the Foreshore area, Lagoon Beach would have been roughly 100m inland. Today it’s up against the shoreline and has magnificent views of Table Mountain and of ships entering the bay.
A world class hotel is located in the suburb and public transport is within easy walking distance. The sunsets like those experienced here would surely have inspired Mahatma Ghandi’s quote "When I admire the wonder of a sunset, or the beauty of the moon, my soul expands in worship of the Creator."
Things to do
Tou can take a leisurely walk along the Diep River to Woodbridge Island, where the Milnerton lighthouse towers over the two bridges crossing the river, one modern, the other a century old wooden bridge built during the South African War. There are vast quantities of birdlife here, including the greater flamingo.
You cab swim at Milnerton south beach where the Milnerton Lifesaving Club is stationed. Look out for the Winton shipwreck during low tide.
Treat yourself and your partner to a luxurious beauty treatment at the Camelot Spa. This health spa has infrared saunas, a hydro bath and a treatment room for couples.
Enjoy a round a golf at the scenic Milnerton Golf Club. The course becomes a lot more challenging when the south-easterly wind blows.
Hop on the bus into Cape Town for a visit to the V & A Waterfront, to take the ferry to Robben Island or to climb Table Mountain.
Where to Eat
The Wang Thai restaurant overlooking the ocean and river mouth is a spectacular venue for the fresh and interesting Thai dishes offered here.
If you enjoy meat dishes, visit Dale’s Black Angus Grill Restaurant for a quality steak grilled to perfection. Arrive in time for a view of the sun setting over the bay.
Fratelli Palmieri at The Italian Club in Milnerton offers the best authentic Italian food in Cape Town. All dishes are nicely priced and generous portions provided. Their thin-crust pizzas are recommended.
Night Life
Take a drive into Cape Town’s Long and Loop streets where the vibe is non-stop and the clubs stay open into the early hours. Some venues to get you into a party mood are: Fiction Music Bar with its massive dance floor, watch live music acts at ERA Nightclub and get swanky at the upmarket COCO Nightclub.

The modern, well-equipped apartments at Lagoon Beach all offer magnificent beach views and convenience.

Did you know?
It was near to Lagoon Beach where the Nieuwe Haarlem ship wrecked, prompting a chain of events that would culminate in the Dutch East India Company establishing a refreshment station here in 1652 and ultimately contributing to South Africa’s rainbow nation.
South of Lagoon Beach is the Salt River mouth where storms occasionally cause old wrecks to surface. The Commodore II wrecked in 1948 and washed ashore onto Lagoon Beach several years ago where it still remains.
