The truth surrounding legends and myths is often questionable but what cannot be disputed is the science behind DNA. So, to say that there are black Africans with Jewish lineage could be considered an absurd myth but DNA has shown this to be absolute fact. The Lemba tribe, known as the Black Jews of South Africa, have always maintained that they were descendants of Jews who were separated from their Jewish clan around 2600 years ago. The tribe, led by a man named Buba, made their way down through African before settling in the Limpopo Province.
DNA tests conducted in 2000 revealed that the Kohanim (Cohen) priestly gene is present in the Y-chromosome of several Lemba males.
