Monkeyland Reviews
More info about Monkeyland
Monkeyland is a sanctuary for rescued primates and is located a short distance off the N2 highway travelling along the Garden Route, the nearest main town being Plettenberg Bay.
The facility was first opened in 1998 and consists of 12ha of wooded indigenous forest where 11 species of primate roam free and visitors can interact with them. The species include gibbon, lemur and various monkeys. Primates arrive from old zoos, confiscations from irresponsible pet owners, laboratories and recovered from the illegal pet trade, and are given the space to exist in as natural an environment as possible. The fact that the animal is free to roam the forest encourages the rehabilitation process as does the interaction with friendly and caring humans. Larger, less predictable species, of which there are 7 in the park, are placed in enormous cages to safely view.
One hour tours are offered by knowledgeable guides who are also familiar with the forest... Show more
