Housed in a century-old building that was originally a fresh produce market, MuseuMAfricA is the go-to place for history buffs. The amount of historic memorabilia and documentation is bewildering that began with the donation of a private collection in 1933 and has grown to over 800000 objects. The items on display are tastefully placed within a building that perfectly suits the subject matter.
Indigenous African cultures are explored and traditional history takes a bit of a back seat to display African artefacts and costumes, however, there are also fascinating Portuguese navigational maps and manuscripts written by intrepid explorers.
Colourful and interesting dioramas of township life and shebeens (illegal bars), as well as an iron-age Tswana dwelling, brings the museum to life.
