Prince's Grant Self Catering Accommodation

The prestigious Princes Grant Coastal residential and golf Estate is located on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal province in South Africa, about 80 kms north of Durban. The estate borders the Mdlotane River, is close to the town of KwaDukuza (previously Stanger) and within a short distance of remote golden beaches. It is centrally positioned between Durban on the Dolphin Coast and the busy port of Richard’s Bay in the north. The old capital of Zululand, Eshowe, at the start of the well-known Battlefields Route, is inland from Prince’s Grant.

At Prince’s Grant, old sugar cane fields were uprooted and over 100,000 indigenous plants and trees planted in a Coastal Regeneration exercise. The project was a massive success and the residences and golf course within the estate are perfectly integrated into the natural surroundings.   

Golf widows need not fret, the area has an abundance of beach, adventure & children’s activities, shopping malls and cultural experiences to appreciate.

With an average 21° Celsius year round temperature, Prince’s Grant is the ideal base from which to enjoy a beach – and golfing – vacation.

Things to do

The award winning championship 18-hole golf course on the estate is truly magnificent and worth returning for several rounds that can be booked online. Get that swing perfected!

The estate has much to offer the visitor including tennis and squash courts, canoeing at the Mdlotane lagoon mouth, hiking the coastal forest region and lazing on the unspoiled beaches. The natural surroundings attract a huge array of birdlife.

A day trip into Durban, KwaZulu-Natal’s largest city, is worthwhile. The city has a wealth of attractions, including uShaka Marine World, the Golden Mile beachfront, surfing at the Bluff and Greyville race course. Take a ride on a colourful rickshaw along the promenade.

For one of the most attractive drives, leave the highway at Ballito and travel the strikingly beautiful coastal road to Sheffield Beach.

Where to Eat

The lodge at Prince’s Grant has two restaurants; the formal Bunkers Restaurant serving exquisite dishes off the à la carte menu and Mulligans Bar and Restaurant where lighter meals and snacks are provided in the pub or on the portico overlooking the greens. Both restaurants serve food of exacting standards and there is no need to leave the estate for a good meal.

Transport

Air The nearest airport is King Shaka International Airport, 52km from Prince’s Grant.

Car Boss Car Hire is based in KwaDukuza and there are several car agencies at King Shaka airport to hire a vehicle or you could order a rental online.

Taxi Boss Car Hire in KwaDukuza also offers a metered taxi service otherwise use one of the many shuttle service operators located at King Shaka airport.

Did you know

One of the world’s wonders, the Sardine Run, occurs along this coast mid winter annually. Predators such as sharks, dolphins, whales and gannets feast on the sardines as they attempt to reach more northerly waters.  Following the feasting and in the evening, gannets huddle on the sea surface to form a floating mass while they digest their food. This is a spectacle on its own.

The great Zulu warrior King Shaka founded the town of KwaDukuza (Stanger). It was here too, that he was murdered and his body tossed into a grain pit. A memorial was erected over the pit and the rock where he would sharpen his spears is alongside. The grooves are still visible.
