More info about Randfontein
The Gauteng town of Randfontein has an incredible history and legacy. It was originally one of the first gold mining towns found in these parts when the gold rush of the late 1800s started to boom; furthermore, it is also the home of the world’s largest stamp mill. Randfontein is just 45 minutes out from the economic powerhouse city of Johannesburg, and is essentially a farming community that, along with a handful of other farms and smallholdings in the area, form a very picturesque and idyllic part of Gauteng – a much welcomed change indeed from the usual high-octane happenings of Johannesburg and Pretoria. Mining is obviously still a dominant feature of the Randfontein landscape, but due to rapid urbanisation, it is now home to its own shopping mall and a few handy amenities. Another striking feature of Randfontein has to be its close proximity to the natural wonders of the Magaliesberg and Witwatersrand Mountain ranges... Show more
About Guest Houses
For a more down to earth experience there are guest houses. Less expensive than hotels, they offer a more homey environment, as well as more privacy. Converted from a private house it’s a much gentler environment and for those with furry friends, there are also pet friendly options. They are usually well situated with shops and places of interest nearby. Being so small it offers a much more personal and intimate attention to it’s upkeep, leaving you with a more polished and homely experience.
