More info about Riverbend Crocodile Farm

They’re enough to make your skin crawl but somehow we are attracted to them, they seem to hold an endless fascination to us humans. They are the Nile crocodile, one of the few man-eating predators on the planet and an ancient species that survived the dinosaurs. And what better place to view them and discover more about this fascinating reptile than the Riverbend Crocodile Farm, inland of Southbroom on the coast of KwaZulu-Natal Province?

The Riverbend Crocodile Farm was opened way back in 1981 and is a family-run business. Initially opened as a tourist attraction, it has become an important breeding centre. The facility has over 200 Nile crocodiles spread throughout the grounds in beautifully landscaped enclosures where visitors can safely view them from raised boardwalks. The onsite education centre provides a great deal of information relating to the lifecycle of the crocodile and displays many items of interest.

About Guest Houses

For a more down to earth experience there are guest houses. Less expensive than hotels, they offer a more homey environment, as well as more privacy. Converted from a private house it’s a much gentler environment and for those with furry friends, there are also pet friendly options. They are usually well situated with shops and places of interest nearby. Being so small it offers a much more personal and intimate attention to it’s upkeep, leaving you with a more polished and homely experience.
