Rondebosch is a beautiful area located in the Southern Suburbs of Cape Town. It is just a short distance from Cape Town CBD, has the most spectacular view of Table Mountain and Devil's Peak, and is known for it’s old oak trees. In 1567, the first group of settlers were granted land along the river now known as the Liesbeek River, which runs through Rondebosch. The Old Victorian fountain is found on Rondebosch main road and was used as a watering trough for horses.

The area is now home to South Africa's oldest schools, a world-class University, beautiful parks, and many a family home.

Things to do

The suburb of Rondebosch is far from quiet and offers plenty to do in and around the area on the days you are less inclined to head into town or join the masses on the Cape beaches.

Your first stop while staying in Rondebosch, should be a visit to the breathtaking Kirstenbosch Gardens. It is the oldest and largest botanical gardens in South Africa and was established in 1895.

If you are into golfing then you have to go and try out the Rondebosch Golf course located in Klipfontein Road. The winding river that runs through the course provides great challenges for all players.

The Baxter Theatre is the place to go if you love live theater, music and dance. It offers a wide range of live entertainment including Ballet, Drama, Opera, Music and Intimate theater. It is one of the major live theater venues in Cape Town.

Rondebosch Common is beautiful open piece of land that was once know as a military campground. The area is declared a national monument. This is a good area to go for peaceful walks.

Rhodes Memorial is situated on the mountainside above the University of Cape Town. It is a monument dedicated to Cecil John Rhodes a politician and pioneer. It has beautiful view of Cape Town, a picnic area, restaurant and access to mountain walks.

Where to Eat

Lyra’s is known for it’s great italian food and unbeatable cocktails. They serve breakfast, lunch, dinner and are also ideal for private parties.

The Hussar Grill is the best place to find great steak. They serve only the finest AAA grain fed beef and encourage guests to bring their own wine to enjoy with their steaks.

Sakura is the best place to unwind at the end of a long day and enjoy some divine sushi and refreshing cocktails.

Transport

Rondebosch is an extremely central area in Cape Town. From here you can easily access all the major freeways and mainroads. The CBD itself is a mere 10kms away. You can quickly get to a number of beaches, as well as many other Cape Town attractions without much time and effort involved.

Air: There is no airport in Rondebosch itself, but Cape Town international Airport is just 16 km away.

Car Rental: If you want to explore Rondebosch on your own time then opt for a rental. There any many different places you can rent a car, but the easiest will be in the CBD or at the airport.

Taxis: Taxis are a great and convenient way to explore Rondebosch, but can be quite pricey if traveling long distances.

Trains/Buses: It is very easy to catch both trains and buses out of Robdebosch. However, they can be unreliable, and it is always best to factor this in to your travle time.
