SAB World of Beer Reviews
More info about SAB World of Beer
Remember those school outings we so looked forward to as children? Well, the SAB World of Beer tour is the adult version! The tour is roughly 90 minutes long and takes place at the South African Breweries (soon to be called Anheuser-Busch InBev following a successful takeover) Newtown premises in Johannesburg. Visitors are guided through the ages – and in 3D – when beer was first brewed back in Egyptian times, later in middle-age European monasteries and finally, in South Africa where umqombothi is brewed. Unlike traditional beer, umqombothi is made from maize and in English is known as sorghum beer. Beer ingredients such as hops can be sampled on the tour. A heritage display shows typical old bar and shebeen (illegal bar) scenes before the tour moves on to the brewing hall where the guide explains the intricate brewing process amid giant copper kettles.
