Saint Denis is located on the northern-most tip of the country, near the Rivière Saint-Denis, and was founded in 1669 by Étienne Régnault before it became the capital city in 1738.

Saint Denis is also home to many magnificent religious structures with visitors able to view the likes of the St Denis Cathedral, the Hindu Temple, the Grande Mosque, and the Notre-Dame de la Délivrance. As the city is a major tourist destination it has a plethora of entertainment facilities for travellers to enjoy; these include casinos, night clubs, shopping malls, restaurants, and cafes.

The Barachois Promenade is one of the more popular tourist spots to frequent; with its stunning sea views, games area, cafes, and an architectural monument in honour of the aviator Roland Garros, spending a leisurely afternoon at the Barachois Promenade is a worthwhile experience. Though Saint Denis is devoid of any beaches, it does have easy access to Reunion’s major resort hubs, and promises visitors a wonderful trip should they get the chance to stay longer.
