The longest running music festival in South Africa, Splashy Fen has entertained music lovers for over 25 years. The 4-day event takes places every year in April outside Underberg, east of the Maloti Drakensberg Park, and fans arrive in large numbers to enjoy the outdoors and featured top bands.
Splashy Fen is named after the farm on which the festival takes place and was the brainchild of the farm owner and a forestry officer friend, both music lovers and keen to offer an experience similar to the Festival of the Flower Children hosted in the UK. The first event took place in 1990 and the 2 organisers expected a handful to arrive. Instead 1200 people attended and since those days, the event continues to grow and become slicker in its production.
