The 415m Tygerberg (Leopard Mountain) was used as a signalling station by the Dutch East India Company in the late 1600's. A cannon on its peak would be fired to notify farmers of ships arriving in the bay and they would journey into Cape Town to sell their produce. Today, Tygerberg has a pleasant nature reserve with a number of small mammals and buck roaming the park.
