Umgeni River Bird Park Reviews
More info about Umgeni River Bird Park
Set in a transformed old quarry where natural waterfalls abound and lush, tropical landscaped gardens have long since covered the exposed stone, the Umgeni River Bird Park beside the Umgeni River is a short 12 minute drive from the centre of Durban in the KwaZulu-Natal Province. The park’s catchphrase is ‘inspire to conserve’ and this has been their aim since 1984 when a few enthusiastic birders first formed the park to both protect the surrounding birdlife and operate as an education facility. Since then, the 3.5ha Park has developed into one of the top bird parks worldwide with over 800 indigenous and exotic bird types on display.
The Park has four walk-through aviaries, each housing birds from different parts of the world. The plant life is worth checking out too, with ancient cycads, palms and ferns bordering the meandering paths and a natural reed-bed filtration system keeping the ponds clean.
A highlight is the free-flight... Show more
