We spent a week with our family (parents, two children, 5 and 10 yrs) in Lavender Cottage at Acara's in March 2018 and enjoyed our stay very much. Coming from an icy Europe, it was just so pleasant, spending our time in the lovely, tastefully arranged and flowering garden which helped us get into "vacation mode" just easily. Acara is easy to reach at 10 min driving distance from Stellenbosch and 50 min driving distance to Cape Town. Starting from Acara, we toured around in the heavenly surroundings with our friends, visiting quite some wineries, having breakfast and dining in the many lovely restaurants close by. At Acara's we could simply relax, reading, letting the children out in the garden, where they loved exploring all its hidden paths, playing around with Fiona's (the landlady's) well-behaved Ridgebacks Kira an Zero and hopping into the pool. The apartment was spacious enough so that both children and adults could spend their time on their own. In the combined kitchen/living room, we could prepare some fresh meals from the local gorgeous food. Summing up, we can happily recommend Acara to families visiting the area, and, of course, we, ourselves, will return once we are back.
Acara was our first destination in SA and the perfect place to relax and rest after our long journey from Europe. We stayed in the very spacious Willow Tree Cottage with magnificent views on the beautiful and lush garden and the surrounding mountains. The cottage is very private and perfectly suited for a family. Our ten month old baby loved it here and so did we. Fiona is a warm, welcoming and very helpful host. We definitely recommend staying at Acara.
My boyfriend and I booked a last minute stay at this stunning group of cottages and as soon as we arrived we booked an extra night! Fiona and her small and friendly team were so helpful and kind and on hand to answer any questions we had.
The extraordinarily beautiful gardens, the quiet and stunning landscape and the perfect cottage space was best getaway we have had in a long time.
I can't recommend Acara enough and would go back in a heart beat if I lived closer!
Acara is an Amazing location, quiet, peaceful and great service. I'm 100% sure that we will visit Acara on our next visit to South Africa.
Unfortunately for us these were the last 3 nights in South Africa but the stay at Acara made them actually perfect.
Nice restaurants in the neighbourhood, safe parking, nice private terrace, lovely pool, just perfect!
This was our second stay at Acara Lodge, a place we found as beautiful as 4 years before, in spite of the severe drought in the Capelands. Once again, we received a warm welcome from Fiona and took advantage of the convenient location to wine and dine in the neighbourhood. We will definitely come back to Acara Lodge on another visit to South Africa.
We stayed 2 nights in the gorgeous Lavender Cottage during our trip along the garden route. All cottages look fabulous though. Very warm welcome from Fiona too. Beautiful gardens & heated pool. Extremely relaxing stay. Prime location to explore Stellenbosch & if you stay at the weekend there’s an amazing market ‘Route 44’ which is a must see - outstanding & only a short drive away. Lovely seeing the graceful horses on the property too & also the 2 ridge backs, so friendly and we looked forward to seeing them each evening. We will definitely return here on our next visit - faultless & I felt emotional on leaving as it was as though we were leaving family.
What an amazing place! Peacefully set in the beautiful gardens, the Acara accommodation and amenities address every detail. The friendly and helpful staff further enhance the fantastic experience. We look forward to visiting again soon!
Amazing accommodation in the most beautiful gardens. We enjoyed the company of 3 owls, multiple birds and horses. A tranquil place for hanging out and incredibly easy access to Cape Town, the beach and Stellenbosch so you can enjoy everything with ease. Fab host and a lovely team make for a very warm welcome. SO much better than any hotel.
Had a very pleasant one night stay over with the family, with great accommodation in a beautiful garden setting and horses in the paddocks. Fiona was a most attentive hostess and ensured we had everything we needed. We will certainly be back to stay when we are passing again!
Recently I stayed in Acara for a whole month. Acara is the ideal place to stay. Close to Stellenbosch, Somerset West, the beach in Strand, it lies in the middle of nature, in complete silence, with magnificent view of the mountains, has a very large well maintained garden, with salt water pool, old trees and the most beautiful and rare flowers, many quiet sitting areas, surrounded by grazing horses. The great house is covered with a thatched roof, the apartment is furnished in good taste, very comfortable large bed, the kitchen well equipped, perfectly clean. Fiona Stafford the owner and her friendly staff made my stay an experience I will not forget.
