Attractions:The Northern Suburbs of Cape Town don't have major tourist attractions, but rather a number of minor ones. Other than some art galleries, the Rust-en-Vrede Cultural Centre in the heart of Durbanville is worth a visit.
The former Drostdy in the Cape Dutch style is a National Monument and always hosts various exhibitions as well as a Clay and Ceramics Museum.
Shopping is good at the Tygerberg Centre, especially for clothes, shoes household ware and electric appliances. There is also lots of entertainment, cinemas, restaurants and coffeeshops.
The Northern Suburbs offer great facilities for golf players. There are golf courses in Bellville, Parow and Durbanville, the latter one being the most beautiful and popular one. The green fees are less than R200 per visitor (18 holes). Tel and Fax: 021-9754834. If you want to learn how to play golf, contact Bell's Golf Academy close to the Tygerberg Centre.
Wine connoisseurs shouldn't miss the Durbanville Valley Wine Route. The wine industry in the hilly landscape of Tygerberg has a 300 year old history. The route starts in Durbanville. Six wine estates are open for visitation: Durbanville Hills, Nitida Estate, Bloemendal, Altydgedacht, Diemersdal and Meeresdal.
If you go a bit further on the N1 towards Paarl , you get to the Exit 39 (39 kms from the city centre), that takes you to Cape Town's only zoo, Tygerberg Zoo. It's a small private animal park with lions, bears, cheetahs etc.
