the Midlands Meander is dotted with charming villages that offer an assortment of accommodations, wedding venues, restaurants and cafés, rural country activities, wildlife reserves, adventure sports, trout farms, historical landmarks, and unique arts and crafts. The Midlands Meander is the ultimate country getaway.
The Midlands Meander covers approximately 80km, from Rietvlei and Currys Post in the east, to Dargle Valley and Fort Nottingham in the west. It is a beautiful countryside of rolling green hills, open pastures, forests, streams, dams, and waterfalls. The wide open spaces and picture-perfect setting makes it a natural haven for artists to find peace and inspiration. The route owes its existence to a group of artists and crafters who decided that the best way to showcase their wares was to lure travellers off the N3 highway, between Durban and Johannesburg, to meander along the quaint country roads.

Facilities and the people there are great! Would definitely recommend this place for a nice breakaway!
The cottage we stayed in was called the Chelsea cottage. Was beautifully decorated and very comfortable. The scenery was stunning. Highly recommended.
We had a wonderful stay at Otter's den. We stayed in the Copper cottage which is their honeymoon suite. It was big and perfectly positioned overlooking the river. It was quiet and tranquil and we really felt like we were out in the country. We were welcomed warmly and the cottage was exceptionally clean and comfortable. We will definitely be back for another visit
Just what we needed after a busy week. Friendly, beautiful surroundings.
A spacious and beautifully appointed cottage with quality finishes and furnishings located in a magnificent setting. Everything was just perfect thank you!
Beautiful Views. That's what we came for! Enjoyed the BBQ facilities.
Very relaxing and quality time was spent with my wife. Everything was just perfect, beautiful and quiet.
We had such an awesome time at Otters Den. Jeff and Alice are absolutely lovely and makes you feel very welcome. Elizabeth made sure our units had clean towels and bedding daily and if we were out for the evening she made sure the electric heater was on to warm the room.
The units are equipped with everything you need for a weekend away (or longer) ; electric heaters, stove (no oven), spa bath, big shower, electric blankets, coffee, tea, yummy cookies and a braai.
Of course there is also the stunning view. Would love to come back again. God bless!
Very clean, neat and well kept. Traditional feel.
Lovely view, friendly owners and staff, strong WiFi. Not much to dislike, we will definitely stay in Otters Den again.
