Simply known as The Train by locals, and situated at Santos beach, Mossel Bay in the heart of the famous Garden Route of South Africa. Enjoy the unique and romantic experience of staying on a real train only 30 metres from the sea on the Indian Ocean side of Cape Town.

The Santos Express is a real train parked almost on the beach at Mossel Bays popular and safe Santos Beach. It consists of a restaurant with a cosy pub and a deck with magnificent views of the bay and distant Outeniqua mountains. We now have a fabulous conference room ideal for weddings, birthday parties or business and team building meetings.

Guests sleeps in a first class compartment or coupe, similar to the Trans Karoo. We have single, double and budget compartments available. Each with spectacular sea views with hot and clean showers. A twin compartment has two single beds, with the option of two extra fold out top bunks. A single coupe has one single bed with the option of an extra fold out top bunk. Each coach consists of 2 single coupes, 5 twin compartments, a communal shower and two toilets.

We have also recently added two vintage wooden coaches called the Royal Suites. These were built in 1919 and 1921 respectively, then transported by boat from England to South Africa where they served the Rovos Rail company until they were decommissioned and made their last journey by rail to join our fleet in December 2013.

Extensive renovations commenced immediately and we now have four royal suites, all with private sea view decks and en suite facilities. These have proven extremely popular, even resulting in a television news broadcast. The colonial feel, authentic woodwork and attention to detail makes these extra special.

The Fork and Train restaurant and pub has splendid views over the bay and distant mountain ranges, and is a popular venue for young and old. We see ourselves as being an affordable family restaurant without compromising on quality. We specialize in seafood and traditional meals, but also serve normal things like burgers, ribs, steaks, breakfasts, and pub lunches. We also cater for private parties and functions in our Lapa

Halfway between Cape Town and Port Elizabeth, and right in the middle of the famous Garden Route of South Africa, nestles the seaside town of Mossel Bay. A bustling holiday resort in summer and the ideal retreat in winter, it is situated on a spectacular sun washed peninsula embraced by the warm Indian Ocean. The greater Mossel Bay area has a well deserved reputation among the thousands of holiday makers who frequent these areas every year.
