Area Information:

Tillietudlem Nature Reserve is a part of one of the most threatened eco-systems in Africa – the mist-belt (or mountain) grasslands. More than 60% of the grasslands biome has already been modified, mostly under forestry or arable agriculture, and only 2,2% of the South Africa’s mountain grassland biome is under formal conservation, despite it being one of the world’s most bio-diverse habitats, hosting a plethora of wild flowers and grasses, greater than the acclaimed cape fynbos. The bio diversity of the eco-system supports a huge array of animal and bird species that come to feast on the treasures it holds.

Property Facilities:

Ogram’s lodge is a luxurious classical country house dating back to the late 19th century, set under a huge oak tree overlooking several tranquil dams, rolling lawns and a magical feeling of absolute peace.

Roaring fires, original Oregon pine floors, sash windows and high ceilings capture the magic of a bygone era…

Surrounded by a wide flagstone covered veranda, it’s easy to while away the days watching the otters playing in the dam below, taking advantage of the excellent fly fishing literally on your doorstep or dining whilst watching the herds of wildebeest grazing on the hillsides.

Attractions:

Trout Fishing:
Some of the finest private fly fishing waters on the Midlands Meander! Tillietudlem offers exceptional and exclusive fly fishing for Rainbow and Brown trout in 4 dams and the Eland’s River. The waters are well managed with fish in excess of 4kg. Strictly catch and release.

The Upper Dargle area is renowned for being one of the best trout fishing locations in South Africa due to the pristine water and high altitude, up to 2 000m. Enjoy some of the country’s best fly fishing in a tranquil natural environment. Set on 2000 hectares in a secluded valley on the southern side of the Inhluzane Mountain, in the Upper Dargle, KZN Midlands, Tillietudlem offers an extraordinary eco-experience with a variety of activities available. Fly fishing, birding and game walks; there are many ways to explore the diversity of this ecological treasure, available exclusively to guests.

If it’s a quiet retreat you prefer, simply relax amidst the tranquility of Tillietudlem – host to a myriad of wildlife including rare and endangered animal and bird species plus a plethora of wild flowers and indigenous trees. If you have never had the pleasure of walking amongst our Nguni herd, you are in for a treat! Tillietudlem is proud to be part of the official KZN Birding Route. The painstakingly restored montane grassland, protection of the indigenous forests and wetlands has ensured that the birdlife on the farm is plentiful and varied.

Quaint corners, scenic drives, a range of places to visit. Blueberry Cafe at Netherwood Farm stands out as a highlight - for numerous reasons.

Dargle is close to where we live in Kloof but we feel like we are on holiday in the country side. We love walking in the forest at Crab Apple Cottages.
