Paternoster is one of the oldest fishing villages on the West Coast of South Africa. It is situated 15km north-west of Vredenburg and 145km north of Cape Town, at Cape Columbine between Saldanha Bay and St Helena Bay. The town covers an area of 194.8 hectare and has approximately 1883 inhabitants.
The origin of the name remains unknown. Many people believe that the name, which means Our Father in Latin, refers to prayers said by Catholic Portuguese seamen when they became shipwrecked. It appears as St. Martins Paternoster on an old map of Pierre Mortier. Other people believe it refers to the beads that the Khoi tribe wore that were called Paternosters.

Loved the room and kitchen area, very nice neat and clean!!
Thank you.!!
Lovely spacious apartment. Central and close to the beach. Only drawback is that you hear the footsteps from the room above. But it wasn't invasive.
Late booking made and what an awesome result. The accommodation was brilliant and the hosts are super friendly to chat to. Lovely stay and will be back again in 2020, for sure 😁🍻
Indeed an experience out of this world. I am staying Hopefield on the West coast (40km from Paternoster) My secretary made the booking for the weekend of 7-9 December 2018. From my arrival till my departure it was just a wonderful experience. Private, peaceful and close to everything one need seeing that it is self-catering units. Me and my wife can really recommend this place.
I really enjoyed the stay at Paternoster Place. Centrally positioned, close to all amenities. The unit itself was adequately equipped and tastefully decorated.

Paternoster Reviews
Everything. What’s not to enjoy
Beautiful beach and great restaurants
Is Pretty
Horse Riding and lovely views.
Everything!!
Enough to do, great restaurant options, quaint town, friendly, sea side.
We had breakfast at Cathy's and it was a real treat, not only are they affordable but the food was superb! Love the ambience and the vibe in Paternoster. Everyone definitely needs to make it a point to visit this little town at least once in their lifetime.
Walking the beaches covered in shells and seaweed and other lovely stuff. Seeing so many Whales I couldn't count them.
Walking the paths surrounded in the special fynbos. The flowers are so beautiful!
The 3 restuarants I dined at were really good ~ Voorstrand, Paternoster Lodge and Blikkies Pizza.
And the staff all very friendly!
The Town is amazing, felt like we had gone back in years. Beaches super clean, which was fantastic, no litter laying around.
We found the service in the restaurants to be very poor and way over priced. We went for breakfast at the Crayfish Wharf and waited over an hour for our food to arrive and the restaurant was not full. Staff not friendly at all. Also went for a dinner and just as bad. Would think the staff would be more helpful and excited to have guests after the last year that we have had! We will definitely not go to restaurants when we go back and wouldn't recommend any to our friends. Quite sad though as the little town is gorgeous.
Was also very concerned with the people selling crayfish on the side of the roads as the tails they were selling were way undersized. There needs to be more checks as these people are raping our oceans. It was not crayfish season and they were undersized, baby tails! Stricter controls should be put in place as there were a few people selling.
White sandy beach and variety of restaurants.
