Kapteinskloof Guest House is situated on a smallholding in the West Coast region, between Piketberg and Velddrif, about 180km north of Cape Town. It is nestled in the beautiful valley of Kapteinskloof and is one of the oldest original Homesteads of this area. In 1988 the playwright Pieter Fourie started to renovate the houses, which date back to 1831. Through his love and passion for old architecture and his dedication to detail he managed to retain the sandveld character of the homestead, which is both simple, yet charming. Tranquility and peacefulness seem to emanate from the whitewashed walls and permeate the surroundings, qualities which we highly appreciate and which we would like to share with you. Enjoy the country lifestyle, go for walks, bring your mountain bike, go for a drive off the beaten track, admire the spring flower, take a swim in our fresh, spring water pool or simply take a good book, find a spot under a tree and let time pass you by.
BONUS: We now offer a portable KolKol wood fired hot tub. For an extra R250 per night you can relax in a lovely hot tub and gaze at the stars. It’s a great experience.
Accommodation is in an original sandveld cottage with the charm and character of the olden days. Furniture is kept simple and uncluttered so as not to distract from the vernacular architecture of the walls and windows. The smell of thatch as you walk in completes the earthy feel. The cottage is self-catering and sleeps 2 - 6 people. It is rented out as one unit to ensure the privacy of guests and is detached from the main house. All cutlery, crockery, towels and linen are provided. Please bring your own swimming towels. Firewood is provided at R50 a bag. Please note that there is no TV or radio in the rooms and no cell phone reception.
Knoppies is a separate room with double bed and en-suite bathroom. Fietjies has a Lounge and bedroom with en-suite bathroom and direct access to kitchen. Dalla is a room with 2 single beds and en-suite bathroom. The kitchen is a cosy place with old Dover stove, fridge, microwave, small oven and hot plates, cutlery and crockery provided. Cool off in our refreshing spring water pool set in a grove of citrus trees. You may bring your pet (or family member), but strictly at prior arrangement only. No chicken killers or cat chasers allowed! Kapteinskloof is a fertile valley at the foot of the Piketberg mountain range. Mostly grown here are oranges, rooibos, buchu and grape vines. After driving through the Swartland in summer it feels like entering an oasis when coming into our valley. Birdlife is rich, and we often see bat-eared foxes, grysbok, porcupines and blue cranes. You can hear the baboons at night, and leopards frequent the area. Kapteinskloof has an abundance of wild flowers in the spring and it is an excellent base for further exploration of the West Coast and Namaqualand flower regions.

Comfortable, well equipped cottage in beautiful surroundings. Really enjoyed the pool on hot days. Remember mosquito repellent. Definitely recommended.
My wife and I had our anniversary at Kapteinskloof. It was really an awesome weekend. Everything was spotless. FANTASTIC location! If I could give this place 6* I would have. 👍
My wife and I wanted a break from the city. This was the perfect spot. We had an entire house to ourselves with a charming wood burning stove that warmed the place perfectly. If you are looking for a romantic and quiet spot, this is the perfect venue.
Energy and welcome of Melanie. Small details like flowers everywhere. Excellent quality of the wood for the braai.
A beautifully restored historic house, with everything you need. Rustic garden and beautiful surroundings. Relax, relax relax.
Peace an quietness and to go for a walk with your dogs. The flowers outside and inside.
This is by far one of my favourite places in the whole Western Cape. Charm, character, peace and quiet, delightful hosts, and lovely gardens and orange groves. Splendid all year round - fires in the winter, pool lounging in the summer.
What a lovely surprise to find people who treat our heritage with TLC and then share it with us. We should have stayed longer. Relaxing after a long trip from Namibia, at its best.
We stayed in this gorgeous cottage last weekend. Its excellent value for money and was a really comfortable stay. The swimming pool is just divine! The Kloof is absolutely stunning, especially in the early mornings with the most wonderful aromatic orange blossom smell wherever you go. Kirstin and Marc have decorated the cottage beautifully and its a real home from home! I would say Kapteinskloof is one of the Cape's best secrets!
We arrived rather late but the cottage was lit up, with a note on the door to welcome us. We made a fire in the wood fire oven which warmed up the cottage, and had a hot relaxing bath after a long day of travelling. The bedroom and decor was beautiful- a real old dutch style cottage. Unfortunately we had to leave early in the morning and didn't have time to explore the farm, but the cottage itself was a welcome, warm and friendly rest. Rusks and filter coffee in the morning were fantastic!

Piketberg Reviews
The hot weather and little wind.
Lovely sleepy village and beautiful landscape surroundings.
Friendly host and people.
Nature was beautiful. The drive around and through the mountain was breathtaking. We had no network in Piketberg but the lady at the Tourism office provided us with a map which enabled us to get our destination. If it was not for her we would have probably had to drive back home and have reached our destination. Therefore thumbs up and 5 stars to the people of Piketberg.
