Montusi Mountain Lodge is family owned and operated.
It is the only luxury destination in the area with a full and uninterrupted view of the Drakensberg's most famous part: the Amphitheatre escarpment.
Every building is specifically placed to take full advantage of the spectacular mountain scenery.
Each suite is a free standing building set in the indigenous gardens, ensuring privacy and tranquility.
The 1000 hectare estate offers the active guest the freedom to explore on foot, mountain bike or horse; while the more sedentary folk can relax at the pool, in the lounge or on the patio and absorb the magic of the mountains.
Meals are a highlight of the Montusi Experience with the kitchen delivering delicious dishes to suit every taste.
Montusi is a place where guests can connect with each other, themselves and nature and leave feeling restored.
In Room Facilities:Each spacious suite is individually decorated and has a comfortable bedroom with en-suite bathroom (bath and walk in shower), a lounge with TV and limited DSTV, gas fire place and private patio. The tea and coffee making facilities include French Press plungers and a bar fridge for fresh milk. A minibar facility in the suite is available upon request.
All suites have a car port for one vehicle.
The suites all have panoramic views of the Drakensberg's Amphitheatre.
Every need, from hair-dryer to mosquito repellant, from umbrella to electrical adaptor, is met.
Since June 2000 the Carte family at Montusi Mountain Lodge has provided an opportunity for their guests to intimately indulge in the freedom of the Drakensberg experience.
We believe in the conservation of the Northern Drakensberg and so we have preserved and planted - changing a Wattle infested wasteland into a rehabilitated conservation area. Our indigenous trees and manmade forests continue to flourish and the resultant birdlife (once non-existent) has become abundant. This ethic has resulted in the return of the Mountain Reedbuck, Vaal Rhebuck, Bushbuck and the elusive Eland to this area once inhabited by Bushmen.
Montusi is 20km from the famous Royal Natal National Park, 8km from the Amphitheatre Golf Course and only 4 km from All Out Adventures.
Property Facilities:Our intimate restaurant (with cosy log fireplace) is renowned for sumptuous local cuisine off innovative menus. In summer meals are served on the outdoor Phumleni where the Amphitheatre view enhances the delicious meals.
Breakfast and dinner are included for lodge guests.
Light lunches are available daily between 12:30 and 14:00.
The estate boasts a large swimming pool, a tennis court, three dams for fishing, extensive trails for hiking, running, horse-riding and mountain biking. Spa treatments are available and the birdlife will keep "twitchers" and nature photographers busy for hours.
Attractions:Hiking is eagerly enjoyed in the Drakensberg. The Montusi Estate boasts three particularly spectacular features: the Bushman Cave (with paintings); The Waterfall Cave which offers a bracing shower in the summer months, and the flat-topped Montusi Peak where there are 360 degree mountain views.
Our fenced swimming pool looks out at the escarpment. The surrounding rocks have provided inspiration for this unusual and beautifully crafted pool.
The Northern Horse operates spectacular horse trails from the Montusi Estate. The stables are within easy walking distance from the Lodge and all levels of rider are catered for.
Anyone approaching Montusi will not fail to notice the impressive All Out Adventure Centre, where there are 10 adrenalin-pumping activies and delicious cappucinos.
We have three dams on the property stocked with trout and bass (and with a beautiful view). Bring your own tackle!
The nearest golf course is 8 km away at the nine-hole Amphitheatre Golf Course at Hlalanathi.
Montusi is situated on the Drakensberg Trails network and mountain bikers and trail runners can access over 100km of mind blowing trails right from their suites. The trails range from gentle 4x4 tracks to technical, purpose-built single track, suitable for all abilities.
Guests keen on connecting to "real" South Africa enjoy our Village Excursion: One of our staff accompanies guests on this excursion to the AmaZizi Tribal Area, to visit to a traditional doctor (sangoma), a primary school and gain a general insight into contemporary rural Zulu life.

Bergville Reviews
Normally stay over in that area for a day or two. Find it very relaxing and enjoyable.
Quite environment
The beauty of nature makes people relax and enjoy.
place with a pool,
Quaint little town.
We loved hiking at the Royal national park.
There are so many places of interest and lovely little restaurants to find.
The beautiful Mountain views and accessibility to surrounding restaurants and activities.
The Royal Natal National Park is beautiful (though some of the roads need to be redone). The Coffee Patch and Bingelela Restaurant were great places to eat.
ATKV Drakensville Resort is my first, hope to visit other interesting places later. Quietness and cleaness of the place, mostly warm swimming pools.
