Superbly situated on the Mpumalanga Highlands Meander Route – a mere two and a half-hour drive from Johannesburg – and clasped by the picturesque and historic village of Waterval Boven / Emgwenya – gateway to the world-famous Kruger National Park – you are guaranteed a country-village ambiance that will soothe your soul.
It is an ideal stopover for the business and leisure traveler on route to the Kruger National Park, the Panorama Route or Mozambique.
In Room Facilities:*On offer are superbly furnished rooms with their own entrances and with an en-suite bath or shower, DSTV with decoder, air-conditioning (hot & cold), electric blanket (optional in winter), courtesy bar, tea/coffee facility, and an electronic safe. Warm welcome, genial host, accommodation comfortable and clean.
PURE AND ABSOLUTE BLISS....again.
We raved about this wonderfully quaint and old world establishment when we first visited a year ago...we booked in again after our holiday in Mozambique, only to find nothing had changed... On the contrary... It got better!
The rooms are beautifully yet comfortably furnished, with hotel quality pillows and bedding.
The spacious bathroom and shower en suite.... Fit for the Kardashians!!
Our host Jaco, stayed in contact from booking to check out and was always available to look after our special needs as a family, with 5 being the youngest and 83 the eldest. There are no dining options in town. The lodge restaurant more than compensates with home cooked quality meals.
Rooms were spacious with king size bed, fully stocked bar fridge (no surcharge, normal bar rates) and en suite bathroom.
Shamrock Arms is without a doubt the only place I would consider when visiting Waterval Boven.
Something about the advert and the positive reviews helped us to decide to stay at Shamrock Arms. Not a single part of the advertising was contradicted in real life. The hospitality, friendliness and willingness to please was out of this world. Terry is a genuine down to earth host with such ease and warmth about him. Jaco is an amazing chef and an amazing person going the extra mile to ensure your culinary needs are surpassed and Sue is such a shining gem with a gentle homely air about her.
Now I don't usually rate venues a 5 but the following has to be noted:
1. History and charm of the building adds character and presence to the stay.
2. Food by Jaco was awesome (Simple home cooked meals, more than enough skill to make you feel like you dining at a decent restaurant)
3. The bar has a Irish pub feel with lots of typical pub paraphernalia (fantastic for drinks before or after dinner).
4. Decent value for money
5. Owners who are directly involved in the running of the B&B.
The rooms are very accessible with your own bathroom, air conditioning unit, television and your privacy. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, it is not only filling, but is presented with a lot of style and tastes wonderful. It gives you the feeling of a very nice home cooked meal. I would definitely recommend this to any traveler that wants to have a nice restful, and hassle free, stay with beautiful surroundings.
Although frequently visiting Waterval Boven on business, this was my first time to Shamrock Arms on the recommendation from colleagues.
At Shamrock you can be sure of a warm reception, friendly staff, spacious and comfortable rooms as well as exceptional food (hats off to the Chef).
I am sure to return next time I travel to Waterval Boven and surrounds.
The hike up the mountain overlooking Waterval Boven is a must.

There is not too much to do unless you're a rock climber in town but Shamrock was a good base to explore areas nearby.
Jaco was fantastic! His home-cooked meals were delicious and he definitely went the extra mile to make us feel special.

The scenery and the history..
We want to thank Shamrock Arms for the amazing service, thorough communication and great food (with special effort to treat us to our liking) from the enquiry up until the minute we left. We were tired and emotionally going through the changes that a move normally bring. We have finally settled in and we are getting used to the traveling for shopping and other services, but we always pass Shamrock Arms with a smile!
Thank you to your staff... We mainly interacted with the manager, Martin (I apologize for not noting his surname), who went above and beyond to make our stay pleasant. He even connected us with the necessary people when we found that there was broken into our house while we were sleeping in your lovely guest house.
He was of so much assistance and he made us feel calm, while I became agitated of leaving the guesthouse for check out time,while the police were still on their way to investigate the matter at the house. Him and his seniors made special arrangements and offered us a special price for another night. My husband slept in the house to ensure no further damage and my daughter and I could spend the rest of our day and night, in the safety and luxury of shamrock arms.
Thank you! You've gone above and beyond to serve us and that sure was welcoming to our new hometown.
Furthermore, I want to personally thank you for the effort and attention to detail on the lovely clean smell to your linen. We've spent many nights in clean beds in hotels/guest houses/lodges/etc., but the 1 thing that distinguished you from them; was climbing into the bed with that strong amazing clean smell and i also found much comfort in it when I attended to my daughter during the evenings. Thank you for that extra attention to detail and expense -it made it "home away from home".
We will gladly refer you to family and friends!
