Upper House offers luxury, tranquillity, and style for the discerning traveller or business executive seeking a quiet break. Upper House is located in the Clarens, in the Free State and is a mere 200 metres from the centre of the village.
Upper House offers accommodation in 2 large en-suite junior suites, an executive suite, a 2-bedroom en suite cottage and two superior en suite rooms, namely the Church Annex, Upper House 2, Upper Exec, Willow Cottage, Upper Classic I and Upper Classic II. All the rooms sleep 2, except Willow Cottage which sleeps 4. The room rates include a luxury in-room breakfast.

Was a wonderful stay. Natalie was a wonderful host!
The accommodation was attractive, well designed, tasteful and comfortably furnished. And what an excellent breakfast! The down side concerns two essentials: the electric blankets didn't work and we were unable to access any news channels on the TV. An explanatory note (including wifi password) for guests is surely a must? A bit disappointing not to have seen the host before we left.
Most unbelievable reception by the hostess, Natalie. This was further capped by the most scrumptious breakfasts served in our room. The room was well appointed and very comfortable in a quiet part of town. The center was 5 min walk from there. Highly recommended.

Had an amazing stay at Upper House. Everything was neat and tidy and the attention to detail was excellent. It was raining quite heavily while we were there but this wasn’t a problem thanks to the umbrellas that were left for us in the cottage. Very centrally located we were able to walk easily to the center of town. There were many things provided to make sure we were warm and comfortable, I especially loved the fireplace. Everyone was friendly and very helpful and the breakfast that was served at our cottage each morning was amazing. Will definitely go back!

Love the mountains for a nice hike.
A variety of restaurants and shops to explore.
We love exploring Golden Gate, wondering through the shops in the Town and visiting our favourite Clarens Brewery. We enjoy supporting the smaller farm restaurants in the area. Highland Brew was a lovely new addition to this trip.
Variety
Main roads to town are recommended for daylight use only. Small town atmosphere but with a wide variety of activities and stores. The annual Titanic Challenge Trail Run was my main attraction - stunning views!
Everything....food, quality of shops...felt safe...clean...friendly people....
Love all the shops and restaurants there is. Surrounded by mountains. Perfect breakaway for winter or summer.

Small, quaint, but very lively little town with spectacular views all around. Hiking is a must and can be done on the edge of town. We stayed at Views and the hiking trail was on our back door. Beautiful, beautiful little town offering great food, culture, entertainment and beautiful hiking trails.
