The lighthouse, called Cape St Francis Lighthouse or Seal Point Lighthouse was built in 1878 at this cape to warn ships of the dangerous reefs that stretch more than a kilometre out to sea. It is the tallest masonry tower on the South African Coast standing at a height of 27.5m. To the right of the lighthouse is the SANCCOB rehabilitation centre for the African Penguins or other stranded sea animals or birds.

During the months of May to September our coastline is graced by Southern Right Whales during calving season and later by the Humpbacks. These beautiful creatures can be observed from a safe distance from one of the many charters that do boat based whale and dolphin trips.

Within the sheltered waters of the Kromme River that meanders all the way to the coast, this is a paradise for any water sport enthusiast. Canoeing, paddle-skiing, snorkelling, canal and river cruises, deep-sea fishing as well as kite-boarding.

Surfers flock to this part of the coastline to favoured surf spots such as Seal Point, Full Stop, Bruces (home of the Perfect wave) and Supertubes.
For 4x4 enthusiasts there is the Baviaanskloof wilderness 4x4 trails, mountain biking as well as trails.

Bunji jumping at Blaauwkraans Bridge a mere 2 hour drive from St Francis Bay, Irma Booysen Floral Reserve and Port St Francis our very own working fishing harbour
