Our rooms are all situated in beautifully landscaped gardens. Our dining room and bar facility serves delicious buffet-style dinners, and the horseshoe-shaped bar is renowned for its friendly atmosphere. In the morning, the atmosphere changes with sunlight streaming through the windows and the lovely aroma of fresh coffee and breakfast in the air.
We offer Wi-Fi access free of charge to our guests, in and around the Gallop Inn. Our guests are never left in the dark during power outages, as we have a generator that keeps the darkness at bay.

Situated in a hollow surrounded by hills, Pietermaritzburg lies on the edge of the rather lovely green Midlands, which is so well endowed with craft shops, restaurants, trout hatcheries, boutique breweries, cheese factories and every other form of bucolic delight that it has formed itself into a route called the Midlands Meander.
Other nearby attractions include the scenic Howick Falls and the Karkloof treetop canopy tour. There are excellent mountain biking trails in the area, some game farms and it’s not far from the Drakensberg. Cultural attractions include a number of museums, township tours and nearby battlefields. An interesting monument is the statue of Mahatma Gandhi on the spot where he was arrested for riding in a 'whites-only' train carriage. He claimed that his career of passive resistance started then.
Pietermaritzburg is just short of 100km from Durban, with which it has very intimate ties. These are most notable in two very tough races, which are run between the cities. The Comrades Marathon is 98km long and follows the old national road. The other race is the Dusi Canoe Marathon, which is run on the Umsinduzi River every year.

Really peaceful and cosy
2nd time staying at Ascot Inn, stayed for 1 night as I was participating in the Capital City Marathon. Great location and easy access to the start venue. Or if you looking to just get away for the weekend, there is a pool for the family to enjoy, you can eat in or have a self catering option. Bob who attended to us when we checked in was very friendly and accommodated our check-out for Sunday till 11am instead of 10am. Everything was just easy.

Everything was ready for us and the cottage was comfortable and clean.
We forgot a small jewelry case when leaving and Ascot called us to let us know so the valuables were not lost

We were pleasantly surprised to find a very spacious mini-apartment with everything we needed for our stay. Neat and tidy, very comfy. Mattresses were a bit hard but overall it was a nice stay and we'll definitely return in future.
It was a nice breath taking place for one to relax and not to mention the peace of mind in terms of noise, its so quite you would think you are alone only to wake up and find a whole lot of visitors

A bit run down in places and student accommodation operations seem to be proliferating, but not to any great extent in the Ascot /Woodhouse Road area of Scottsville.

Scottsville is one of the older suburbs in KwaZulu-Natal's capital City, Pietermaritzburg. Within the boundaries of Scottsville are a number of educational institutions, including the University of KwaZulu-Natal [UKZN] and Durban University of Technology [DUT] and a wide range of primary and secondary schools, both independent and state. Schools such as Epworth, St John's, St Charles, Merchiston are situated in the suburb with more in the neighbouring suburb.
One has a choice of 3 shopping centres, where all the major banks are situated plus a number of national supermarket chains. The Suburb has a golf course, horse racing track, sporting fields for various sports such as cricket, rugby, football and hockey. The Golden Horse Casino and Hotel are found here and many other accommodation options, such as Jean-Lee B&B, Ridgeway Close, Aberfeldy and Tancredi. They offer both B&B and self-catering options.
The residents of Scottsville are predominately academic and professional; it is a highly sort after residential suburb. It has easy access to the CBD and the N3 highway.
