Set amongst red Enon hills, and surrounded by game and nature with magnificent views, glorious sunsets, and star filled nights. There are three chalets set on a hillside overlooking the valley and one cottage in the dry riverbed. Each of the chalets has a private deck with armchairs and cushions, each decorated in a different animal theme. The Chalets are set 300m and the Cottage about 50m from the main lodge where we light our nightly fire, eat dinner and breakfast. The animal view from here in the evening is spectacular. This makes every evening a really special occasion. The Chalets are directly linked to our two walking trails which take you right up to the hills and valleys and back to your chalet. Our 4th Self Catering Cottage is tucked away in the river bed. It has its own fireplace and is completely secluded from the main lodge and other Chalets - but guests may, of course, join for breakfast or dinner, as you wish. This is a perfect honeymoon hideaway or for small families.

Area Information:From the moment you turn off the Vergelegen Road onto the windy track over the riverbed (sometimes dry in summer), you know you are in for something special! You realise immediately that this IS a secret place, hidden away, a little piece of African magic unlike anything else you will ever have experienced. It is this very same feeling that you as a Guest feel, that made the owners fall instantly in love with Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge.
Property Facilities:On the farm there are a few relaxing activities, swimming, hiking, reading on your deck, watching the animals, Bird watching over 100 different species, canoeing in raining season while enjoying the birdlife around the dam, gin tasting, Sundowners on the Mountain View point and enjoying the scenery.
Attractions:The Vergelegen Road upon which Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge is situated leads one directly to the R328 and one of the most highly sought after circular routes in South Africa, down the Swartberg Pass to Prince Albert, through Meiringspoort and de Rust and back home to us, in time for sundowners and another fantastic dinner!! Along the same route you’ll encounter ostrich farms, wine estates, and of course one of the greatest natural wonders in the world - the awesome Cango Caves and Highgate Ostrich Farm - directly accessible from here!
George is 65km from here over the Outeniqua Pass and leads to Knysna and on to Port Elizabeth, this is the spectacular Garden Route. Mossel Bay just over the fabulous Robinson Pass is just 98km. The famous Route 62 opens up to you on our doorstep!
We offer a vast range of activities in and around Oudtshoorn that we can book on your behalf. From visiting an Ostrich farm and learning more about ostrich farming, to doing a Bush Safari with various wildlife or a Heritage walk to see the Bushman drawings or even horse-riding. We can also arrange Hiking, Birdwatching, Stargazing, Wine, Beer or Gin tasting. You awake early in the morning, open the door and a Giraffe, Zebras and a Black Wild Beast are watching you. Could your day become better ? Yes ! Indeed ! Having a delicious breakfast on the terrace of the Lodge with fantastic mountain views. For your day follow Varley’s recommendations for activities or enjoy a really relaxing day at the pool, having a glass of cold white wine. We did it all and had a unforgettable days here. Finish the day with an excellent dinner, big compliments to Annelise for delicious menus every night !

Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge is a real little piece of Heaven. Rooms are tastefully decorated and very functional. Having a drink on the veranda or at the swimming pool whilst watching the wild animals is quite an experience. The quiet & peace together with the fresh air is food for the soul. We will definitely come back to Zwartberg for more stays. We would definitely recommend anyone to stay over and experience the bush whilst still being close to all the necessary amenities and also being able to have so many things to do in the vicinity. Keep it up Zwartberg View Mountain Lodge!!!!
