Esigodini is the Zulu name for "Place in the Valley," and it is a delightful holiday cottage that can sleep up to 10 people in five bedrooms, in three separate dwellings, IVY COTTAGE, OAK SUITE and WILLOW HUT.
Our little piece of heaven is nestled in a nook of the valley just off the Drakensberg Gardens road, 1 km from the Drakensberg Gardens hotel. About 4kms from the cottage, there is a convenience store which is well stocked for odds and ends. Both the nearby hotel and Castle Burn have restaurants which offer meals to visiting guests.
The main house (IVY COTTAGE) is fully equipped and well-appointed with three bedrooms - one of the bedrooms is an inter-leading family suite (one room has two single beds and the other bedroom a double bed). The third bedroom has a double bed. The lounge has a combustion fireplace which warms the entire cottage on a chilly day. The dining room can seat 10 people. The fully equipped kitchen has 2 fridges and a microwave. There is a separate toilet and bathroom (with a bath. only) The outside OAK SUITE consists of a large bedroom which has a double bed plus a separate bathroom with a shower. A few meters away there is a thatch rondavel called WILLOW HUT which has two single beds.
There is a braai area with a fire pit ideal for a relaxing night under the stars. The units are serviced and all linen is provided. Towels are NOT provided and so we ask guests to bring their own, plus charcoal and firelighters.
One basket of wood is supplied per day (wood can be bought at the convenience store if you need extra)
The house is situated in a large 20-acre, tree-filled garden with a small dam and stream running through the property. It is surrounded by rambling roses and lush green grass, and it has a commanding view of the Rhino Peak of the Drakensberg escarpment. The bird life is good and it’s a really lovely place to relax and unwind. There are lots of lovely walks to various pools and waterfalls.
Esigodini is a wonderfully peaceful and comfortable refuge for a relaxing getaway and the ideal base from which to explore the beauty of the Southern Drakensberg.

Reviews
A cosy and comfortable little cottage with 3 inside bedrooms, of which 2 were interleading, ideal for the young family with little ones. There was a shared bathroom and separate toilet. The outside bedroom had its own bathroom but you had to brave the cold (briefly) to get there. The other bedroom outside (which we didn’t use) also had access to this bathroom.
The kitchen had a lovely new gas stove, and 2 big fridges which was great. However, the washing up area was very small. The kitchen was well stocked, with more than enough cutlery and crockery, as well as normal utensils like sharp knives and cutting boards. The cottage was serviced, and the staff came in more than once a day to wash up and clean.
There was a lovely garden, with lots of space for small people to run around, as well as 2 swings, again great for the children.
As there was snow on the mountains, we made full use of the inside fire, for which wood was supplied.

Amazing hospitality. Everything you need and more. Tasteful and comfortable. Loved feeding the animals. Beautiful outdoor area and scenery. Wallk down to the river.
Will definitely come back.
Mountain views and the breath of fresh air
It's far enough away from all the hubub to really feel like you're away from it all but also has a lot available to do if you so wish. The scenery is beautiful and the air is fresh!
Hiking, swimming, relaxing.
If you're in to adventure, then Underberg is the place to visit. There's no shortage of trails for running, hiking and mountain biking. It's close to the Drakensberg and Sani Pass.
Breath-taking beautiful! Well stocked convenience store (Elands Rest) and a few nice restaurants to have coffee. Just very cold, even in Nov.
Scenery in the surroundings.
For us its all about the hiking in the mountains.
Scenery!!
Beautiful part of the country!!
