At 2097m above sea level, Dullstroom is one of the highest towns in South Africa. It has a sub-alpine climate, and is well known for its cool, often misty atmosphere. The town's stone lodges nestle along cool trout dams and streams, where bright yellow arum lilies and 120 other species of indigenous wild flower carpet the region in a kaleidoscope of colour every spring. With its many pubs, restaurants, lodges and quaint village shops, this is one of the most appealing tourist destinations in Mpumalanga. Dullstroom is ultimately about relaxing, breathing fresh air, be it by fishing, hiking, dining out or snuggling up next to a cosy fireplace on a misty night.

The fishing is diverse and challenging, and a good experience for the more serious and advanced fisherman.
You can choose between 2 km of the upper Elands River with several weirs and waterfalls, or one of 10 dams ranging from a well stocked beginners dam to a 14-hectare lake with fish weighing up to 5kg lurking in the depths.
Experience the tranquillity and superb fishing at Anford and Fins Estate. Excellent picnic spots can be found at the waterfalls and dams or in the pine forest.
The sub alpine climate and the altitude on the escarpment created a special environment with unique fauna and flora. From rugged cliffs with aloes and shrubs to open grassland plains and pine forest, this area has a diverse range of plants.
During your walks you could spot a variety of animals and birds. Look out on the rocky cliffs for rock rabbits living in the cracks and holes. Small antelopes like Duiker, Klipspringer, Steenbuck, Blesbuck and Oribi are regularly spotted in the area. At night Jackal, caracal, civit, aardvark and porcupine abound.
169 different bird species have been identified in the area and it is a birding paradise. Birds from the resident breeding pair of Fish Eagles to a wide variety of water birds can be expected to be seen during your visit.
There are two airstrips available at or near Anford.
The main airstrip are build on the same property as Anford. The airstrip is currently under construction to make it longer and will on completion be 1200 meters by 24 meters gravel and grass. It will lie on 03/27 at an altitude of 5700 feet. This runway will also be used by the St Micheils golf development adjacent to Anford.
The one on the adjacent farm called Fins Estate is a 900 meter by 12 meter grass strip. Build against the hill this strip will only allow you to land in a westerly direction and take off in an easterly direction. The strip lies 09/270 at an altitude of 5300 feet. Aircraft up to a Cessna 210 regularly visits the airstrip.

Highly recommended!
Unfortunately we were not able to stay at Anford due to the road being so bad with all the rains. Thandeka was amazing with arranging alternative accommodation and getting us there. She also mentioned the roads were going to be sorted so this was not a common issue, more like a once off. i would definitely want to go back and stay there, there service was fantastic at every step of the way.
A real little gem. Its not called the Forest cottage for nothing. Quiet, in the forest, overlooking the forest. Seeing waterbuck, Bushbuck and duiker pass. Comfortable house with everything you need.
Loved Anford, so beautiful and serene, will definitely stay there again. Staff ars very friendly and the food is delicious.
This was our 2nd stay at Anford Country House. The establishment is good value for money and very clean. Their biggest asset is their staff who are friendly and efficient. We had booked for dinner but due to a storm there were no lights in the dining room so the ladies delivered our meal to our room on trays.
Lovely setting
The place is conveniently close to the N4. The hostess Thombi was extremely welcoming,friendly and helpful. The room we had is large, well appointed, spotlessly clean, with electric blankets, heaters, bottled water. We never ate dinner, but the menu looked good, and we had a beautiful breakfast in the delightful dining room with a wood fire burning. Thombi could not have done more to make us comfortable. We will definitely use this establishment again for an overnight.
