Newly renovated Rockwood Karkloof Collection boasts 4 award winning self-catering units, including a luxury 4 bedroomed farm homestead and 2 bedroomed cottage in close proximity (with wifi), and 2 secluded and private wooden forest cabins deep in the heart of the indigenous forest of the Karkloof Private Nature Reserve (4x4 and no wifi).

In Room Facilities:

Non-smoking, complimentary tea, coffee, sugar, milk, condiments, bottle of red wine, charcoal, firelighters and firewood provided on arrival.

Area Information:

Rockwood is situated on Spitzkop Farm and within the Karkloof Nature Reserve in KwaZulu Natal, South Africa on the well-known Midlands Menader route. The greater Karkloof area has been identified as having significant value due to its biodiversity and has been earmarked for conservation by Ezemvelo KZN Wildlife. Currently, the reserve consists of about 60% mist-belt forest and 40% mist-belt grassland and ranges from 1000m to 1767m above sea level. This results in a significant number of endemic and near-endemic species of fauna and flora.

Property Facilities:

The lodges are all perfectly suited for relaxing and leisurely getaways for families, friends and couples. Units are close to fresh water, rivers, dams, waterfalls, grasslands, indigenous forest and the famous trails of the Karkloof. Guests enjoy exclusive access to the Karkloof Nature Reserve for hiking, mountain biking, trail running, dam swimming, fishing, bird watching and the eco-antidote to tech-boom burnout of forest bathing. Enjoy board games, trampolines, jungle gyms and discounted rates for the Karkloof Canopy Tour.

Attractions:

The Karkloof is an excellent mountain biking and trail running area hosting yearly events such as the Karkloof Classic, the 3 Cranes Challenge and the 100-Miler. We host guests for the Midmar Mile and the Comrades Marathon. The area is home to many local farmers who supply the local Karkloof Farmer's Market and Piggly Wiggly which is a scenic drive from the farm.

Unfortunately with the hard lockdown we were unable to try restaurants and pubs. So I would like to reserve my comments for a later stage.

Howick is very limited in what it offers... best to drive out to spots in the surrounding Midlands areas...
