Klein Boschkloof is a lush green oasis and working farm, surrounded by the Northern Cederberg – the majestic Krakakadouw on the one side and Platberg (Flat Mountain) on the other side - and is situated in the unspoilt Boskloof Valley, which borders onto the Cederberg Wilderness Areas, a mere 9km from the town of Clanwilliam.
Klein Boschkloof Chalets offers self catering accommodation and has a 4-Star Grading from the SA Grading Council.
While Eskom keep us in darkness, we keep on the lights!!
The three Cape Dutch style cottages with thatched roofs and half meter thick clay brick walls are all air-conditioned, equipped with TV and have WiFi access. The cottages are well equipped with full bathrooms, bath and separate shower, tiled to the ceiling. Down duvets provide extra warmth in winter and padded cotton percale comforters just enough warmth in summer. Towels, bed linen, dishcloths and the necessary toiletries are provided. A “starter pack” of tea, coffee, milk, sugar and home-made rusks makes that first cup of tea/coffee after arrival pure pleasure.
All kitchens are equipped with the necessary crockery, cutlery, fridge, stove with oven, kettle, toaster, microwave oven and coffee plunger. Original paintings and hand-picked prints enhance the interiors of the chalets.
DIE STAL (sleeps 4)
Die Stal, is a former stable reincarnated as a grand old Cape Dutch style cottage with Oregon Pine wood ceilings and Batavian clay floor tiles. The spacious living area with fireplace is equipped with an Embuia wood dining room suite, leather couches as well as a couch which converts to a double bed and a single bed.
The carpeted bedroom with its Yellow wood and Embuia wood furniture has an extra length queen size and a single bed. The bathroom is equipped with a washing machine.
The kitchenette is equipped with the necessary crockery, cutlery, fridge, stove with oven, kettle, toaster, microwave oven and coffee plunger.
The old kraal sandstone wall forms an intimate private courtyard. Paved stoep areas, both with a table and chairs, have magnificent views to the mountains. A private braai (barbeque) is situated in the shade of an oak tree on the lawn in front of the cottage.
OU HUIS (sleeps 4)
Ou Huis, our flagship cottage, has hand-crafted Ceder wood ceilings, Yellow wood doors and Batavian clay floor tiles. The spacious lounge is fitted with leather couches as well as a couch which converts to a double bed. The carpeted bedroom has an extra length queen size bed and a single bed.
The family size kitchen with fireplace/indoor braai has a large wooden table which comfortably seat eight. The kitchen is furthermore equipped with the necessary crockery, cutlery, fridge, stove with oven, kettle, toaster, microwave oven, coffee plunger, washing machine and dishwasher.
A wide stoep leading off the kitchen and lounge leads to lawns with a “conference size” private braai (barbeque) with lapa style circle seating. Garden furniture allows for outside dining under a pergola in the shade of a 100 year old vine.
WAENHUIS (Sleeps 4)
Waenhuis, a former wagon shed, consists of two units, Waenhuis I and Waenhuis II, which are not internally connected. The two spacious units have hand-picked SA Pine wood ceilings and Poplar beams. A private braai (barbeque) with lapa style circle seating is situated on the lawn in front of the cottage. Waenhuis is ideal for two couples or a family with teenage or adult children since each unit has its own en-suite bathroom. Waenhuis I is an open plan unit. The queen size bed is sensitively screened off. The living area accommodates a table with four chairs and two two-seater leather couches. The kitchenette is equipped with the necessary crockery, cutlery, fridge, stove with oven, kettle, toaster, microwave oven and coffee plunger. On its own, this unit is ideal for a couple or one single person.
Waenhuis II, the second bedroom, has a separate entrance and is furnished with Embuia wood twin beds – the beds can be combined and made up as king size. The unit is equipped with a tea/coffee making facility, bar fridge and a leather two-seater couch as well as an Oregon Pine wood table and two chairs. This unit can also be used as an extra room along with Ou Huis.

Fire wood and home made jams/preserves are on sale at the farm.
Architect, Gilbert Colyn, who designed many large buildings throughout South Africa, also designed the Conservatoire of Music at the University of Stellenbosch, today still deemed to be one of the finest conservatoires in the world, sensitively transformed the badly neglected buildings, a stable, wagon shed and old farm house, estimated at being approximately 230 years old, into three upmarket cottages situated between the orange groves and with magnificent views to the mountains. At Klein Boschkloof the silence and tranquillity can be felt.
With Clanwilliam town and all its modern day amenities a mere 15 minute drive away, Klein Boschkloof is the ideal base from where the Cederberg, Lambert’s Bay, Elands Bay, the mission station at Wupperthal, Namaqualand and many other small towns along the N7 highway can be explored.
Klein Boschkloof is ideal for a peaceful weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life, a family get together, intimate wedding or that birthday party away from it all.
Every year at spring (August – October) the environment surrounding Klein Boschkloof changes from a semi desert to one that shares in a colourful display of wild flowers. During September the smell of orange blossoms permeate the air.
San rock art, Rooibos Tea farms, the legendary Strassberger Shoe factory, nearby Bird Island, world renowned rock formations and an assortment of other places of interest are worth a visit. For the more energetic visitor, Clanwilliam offers the annual triathlon (October), hiking trails, swimming, cycling, mountain climbing, bouldering, horse riding, water sports and fishing at the Clanwilliam Dam. Or……..explore the area by air from one of The Red T Company’s various aircrafts.
Clanwilliam has a very moderate winter climate with champagne evenings from May to October.
