Bergplaas Nature Reserve offers a unique environmental learning experience for people from all walks of life.
Bergplaas Nature Reserve is a 5000-hectare proclaimed private nature reserve located in the Nieu Bethesda/Graaff-Reinet region of the Great Karoo. Renowned for its rugged beauty and sense of space, Bergplaas is completely off the grid. Visitors can enjoy mountain biking and walking in the mountains. This is an ideal getaway from city life and a place to re-connect with nature.
Accommodation is offered in a 6-bedroom self-catering guest house, that can accommodate up to 12 guests, and is only rented out to 1 group at a time. In addition, there is a cosy 1-bedroom self-catering cottage, which can accommodate up to 3 guests. Both the guest house and the cottage have their own kitchen facilities, dining and living areas.

The 5000-hectare Bergplaas Nature Reserve neighbours the iconic Compassberg in the Sneeuberg Mountains of the Great Karoo. Its altitude ranges from 1400m to 1800m and it serves as a key water catchment for the Karoo and the Eastern Cape. Originally comprising three livestock farms, the internal fences and livestock were removed, and the wildlife that historically roamed this area was reintroduced. Gazetted as a Protected Area - Nature Reserve status through Eastern Cape Parks and Tourism Agency, through their Biodiversity Stewardship Programme.

Such a wonderful place, steeped in historical and natural interest. Museums, National Park and nearby Owl House.
Picturesque town, Reinet House Museum is a great stop, dinner at Pioneers, Nieu Bethesda to see the Owl House is worth the drive.
