The Guesthouse is located on the fertile banks of the Olifants River, on the famous South African West Coast. This gem of South Africa's West Coast, has everything and more to offer the battle-weary businessman or adventurous tourist.
There is little to prepare you for the sheer chic and panache of this stylish establishment. Each suite has been lovingly restored and decorated in a uniquely distinctive style. No one room looks like any other. From rich earthy ambers to the coolest jades and greens, some furnished with pieces which were meticulously handmade by owner, Hilsa Van Heerden, and others, with beautiful period furniture, restored to their original beauty.
Justifiably one would want to return again and again if not for the delicious farmhouse breakfasts, then to sleep in another suite to experience the "MELKBOOMSDRIFT charm".
Each suite and self-catering unit is equipped with a fully stocked bar fridge for your convenience. Coffee and tea facilities are available as well - fresh farm milk in your fridge daily and fresh homemade rusks!
Area Information:Vredendal, a modern South African WEST COAST town is situated along the fertile banks of the Olifants River in the Olifants River Valley. As you approach this bustling rural gem you will encounter vast expanses of terraced vineyards, reminiscent of a typical Rhine River village.
A leisurely 3 hour drive from Cape Town on the N7 highway, you will journey through some of the most magnificent scenery which South Africa and specifically the WEST COAST, has to offer.
Vredendal is an ideal stopover for the battle-weary businessman or the adventurous tourist who wishes to experience the true warmth and welcome for which the WEST COAST and her people are so well known.

Considerate and friendly host! Room was very comfortable and neat.
Food was so well presented by the staff, we loved it.
Beautiful surroundings, room was spotless and breakfast was great.
Everything was exactly as it was on the pictures, clean neat, will definitely stay there again.
Quaint, quiet getaway with Picturesque scenery. Ancient rooms which are cozy and wonderful hospitality. There is a lapa filled with antique furniture and you can use it to braai and have dinner, however there are lots of cobwebs and I wish they would clean it more often. Fresh towels everyday and the surrounding vineyards are just breath taking.
Have been using this guest house for business over many years and have always received excellent service, even when I have arrived late at night. The food is brilliant and staff are friendly. Highly recommended.
I recently stayed at Melkboomsdrift Guest House for a business trip and truly enjoyed the time spent there. The staff really made a lot of effort to make my stay enjoyable, and went out of their way to cater for my specific dietary needs, which was a real bonus!

We found Melkboomsdrift to be a chilled, beautiful overnight stop, perfectly positioned on the way to the Orange River (Gorge, at Onseepkans), from Cape Town. Very comfortable rooms and beds, warm hospitality and a good breakfast. We had dinner at the Maskam Brewery nearby which was very vibey after a Springbok win - kid friendly and their cider is spectacular.
Great rural setting..lovely surroundings and views over the vineyards and down to the river..and brilliant for star gazing! Very quiet comfortable rooms with lots useful self catering facilities too. Pleasant helpful staff. Loved the main historic building and restaurant terrace. Tasty, hearty cooked breakfast as well as a good selection of cereal, juice and muffins.
We enjoyed our stay in their clean, comfortable and modern self-catering accommodation. Our room overlooked the vineyards and it was tastefully decorated. Our hostess was very friendly and accommodating.
