At Cloud Cottage we offer a restful holiday secluded in the Outeniqua Mountains, with soul restoring views, gentle streams, indigenous fynbos vegetation and majestic walks.
Between the arid and scrubby Klein Karoo and the lush, ancient Knysna forests winds the 85km Prince Alfred’s Pass: a narrow, historical dirt road with sheer drops and magnificent views, wending its way between Uniondale and Knysna. Pristine fynbos covered mountains ray out in all directions, creating a microclimate quite different from the neighbouring Klein Karoo desert – and very fertile for farming.
Set at the summit of the pass, lies Voog se Kraal, the family-run estate: 800 hectares of mountains, fynbos, ravines, gurgling streams, waterfalls and rock pools.
SELF CATERING ACCOMMODATION
The cottage is tucked into the side of the mountain with panoramic views of the awe-inspiring surroundings. It has two bedrooms which can sleep up to six people, down duvets and cotton linen, and fully equipped open-planned kitchen / dining room, and lounge.
The lifestyle is simple, comfortable and cosy, no television; oil lamps for lighting, hot water and fires to keep the cottage warm in winter.
There is no electricity at Cloud Cottage. The simple stone and adobe cottage is warmed in the frosty winters by wood fire and candlelight.
ACTIVITIES AND ATTRACTIONS
There are several beautiful rock pools to swim in and waterfalls to inspire you. Freedom to roam the 800 Ha of fynbos covered mountains and to enjoy the indigenous forest river walks.
An additional attraction of being on Voogsekraal is that one of South Africa's foremost sculptors, Theo Megaw, lives and works here. Guests are welcome to visit his studio.

Reviews
My son and I spent a couple of nights at Cloud Cottage. What an absolute gem we found. It is cosy, comfortable and extremely clean. It is a perfect getaway for a digital detox. We will definitely be back, and we'll be telling a few select friends.
This is a remarkable venue that is completely off the grid and gives one the chance to quieten down, enjoy the beautiful scenery, sunsets and night skies. The lanterns used for night light create a cosy atmosphere conducive to relaxing in the subdued light, listening to the night sounds. We were enchanted by a host of fireflies that lit up the darkness with wondrous tiny bursts of light. Making the fire for the 'donkey' which supplies the hot water, also gave a delightful opportunity to reflect on the privilege of some of our lives. It also gave us piping hot water, more than enough for our needs. Monique is most gracious and helpful in welcoming one to the cottage and informing guests about the use of the cottage.
It was a sheer delight to spend the night in the cottage and we will certainly be back for another visit.
Awesome stay and the perfect weekend R&R spot.
Enjoyed very much and will advice people to go.
Peace and tranquility. The brightest African stars. Exquisite fynbos. Hospitable host. Stay for 2 or 3 days to recharge your batteries. Highly recommended.

R339 and a beer at Angie's g spot in De Vlught.
Quiet old world charm.
We had supper at The Hungry Ghost restaurant and the food was good. It is a small, but nice little town.
Lovely farming community that understand that life is about being kind and hospitable to each other in the harsh Karoo environment.
Convenient location for travel towards Graaff Reinet or Baviaanskloof.
