Resting comfortably on the banks of the seasonal Mohlabetsi River in the Greater Kruger’s Balule Nature Reserve sits the inimitable Nyala Safari Lodge. Distinct in design, this 5-bedroomed lodge offers thatched accommodation in an iconic rondawel style, an archetype of Kruger accommodation.
Nyala’s main area has a wrap-around viewing deck mimicking the curves of the river, and runs the full length of the lodge. The entire lodge is shaded by weeping Boer-beans and ancient Jackalberry trees, ensuring respite from the heat during the sizzling summer months. There’s also a swimming pool on-site-and decking area to ensure the most is made out of those balmy summer days. Don’t be surprised to spot bushbuck and vervet monkeys while lounging around the pool area.
Just metres away from the main area is a thriving waterhole, where wildlife is known to put on a spectacle for onlookers. The boma area is strategically placed to take advantage of waterhole views, and offers the perfect place to sit under the stars around a crackling campfire after your evening game drive. Boma and swimming pool aside, the rest of the main area comprises a dining section, open plan kitchen, lounge, and viewing deck with hammocks.
Dotted among the riparian vegetation are 5 well-appointed chalets, furnished with sandy beige interiors and earthy tones designed to harmonise with the Balule Bushveld. Expect Egyptian cotton linen, light wooden furniture, and ornate bathrooms, four of which have deep-set luxurious baths. While each room has a hint of uniqueness, all have indoor and outdoor showers and views of either the bushveld, pool or river.
Activities include two game drives a day which depart at first light and late afternoon when the nocturnal predators are most active

We have just returned from a great 3 day bushbreak at Nyala Safari Lodge. Being guides and working in the industry ourselves we just needed a break from the hustle and bustle. And this is exactly what we got. We love Nyala Safai Lodge setting overlooking the riverbed. Even though it is winter we had some great sightings at the waterhole and the lions kept us up all night, roaring next to the fence. We enjoyed having the entire camp to ourselves and the GREAT atmosphere of the camp!
Located close to Hoedspruit, but you feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, Nyala offers an excellent experience of the African Bush. It was good to meet the owners, Bill and Camilla, who were there to welcome us on arrival. The location is stunning, lodge is comfortable, well-equipped, and the staff are friendly and helpful. Gideon, the manager and ranger, with his infectious laugh, did all possible to find us good game sightings. We saw an amazing variety of game.
Excellent self-catering facilities, friendly staff, excellent game viewing in open game viewing vehicle, or on foot, with expert guide & every expectation of seeing the "big five". Waterhole in dry river bed attracts an interesting selection of game to be viewed from a deck on the river bank.
Value for money and the overall experience is outstanding. Highly recommended. As an additional recommendation, our daughter had her wedding there, when we took over the entire lodge for a few days.
I have been a visitor to Nyala for many years, I return over and over again and have never had reason to complain about one single thing. I will keep returning based on the location, the staff as well as the owners that have always taken a keen interest in seeing that we have a great stay.
We stayed at Nyala for two nights in July. What an amazing time we had. Game drives were really good and Gideon knows his stuff. We laughed and had so much fun on the drives. Afternoons in the sun on the viewing deck and evenings around the camp fire...So quite and relaxing.
The perfect getaway!!!
Thank you all so much
This was about our 8th visit to Nyala and as usual it never disappoints. This is has to be one of my most favorite places on earth! The staff are always ready to assist and by this stage have become like family.
An awesome place! Everything is great. We treat ourselves with 3 nights there in October and that was the highlight of our trip to South Africa.
Bill was welcoming, Lizzy took care of us, but above all, Gideon, the Lodge game driver, is the main asset of the place! He is so knowledgeable! Gideon always makes its best to find you the most amazing sights. And his laughter is really infectious! Even an unexpected puncture became a moment of laughter.
We stayed for two nights at Nyala in September and found it to be a little gem of a lodge that its overpriced counterparts could do well to copy in some respects.
The lodge is set beside a dry river bed with a viewing deck overlooking a waterhole.
The rooms are clean and very comfortable and are kept spotless by Goodness and Lizzy.
Gideon the Lodge game driver is an excellent spotter and has a wonderful charm and sense of humour which makes for an entertaining and informative drive.
One of the most magical places in South Africa. Nyala gives you a opportunity to experience the African bush at its best. Bill & Kamilla have created the most relaxing and welcoming atmosphere and their staff, Gideon, Lizzie & Goodness make you feel at home.
We need to really enjoy and savoir these types of destinations that immerse you in the wild.
Seriously from Gideon and his awesomeness at finding animals and just being so much fun on drives to Lizzy being the sweeetest person who sets the table (something we weren't expecting and realized how spoilt we felt) and doing the dishes!!!! HELLO HOLIDAY!! Its being in the bush with the luxury feeling without paying at all your savings for! Viewing deck is exquisite, rooms are clean and beds are so comfy! Seriously will only ever go back to Nyala!

Hoedspruit Reviews
Beautiful and Clean, pity a place like Mali Mali can upset a persons Holiday... an event that was meant to be legendary! Mali Mali is not as per there website... they manipulate the internet!
The nature.
Morokologa game reserve, we spend our Christmas at the camp and we had a beautiful game drive and morning walks with my grandmother. Played games and reconnected as a family.
Most of Gold cabins- the weather - the sound of the birds-
Since we have family and old colleagues in Hoedspruit we enjoy everything. Love going to Hoedspruit for a weekend break away.
The quietness.
It’s a beautiful town which is easily accessible and has all the convenient shopping around the lodges nearby and one is able to do various activities around the area.
Privacy!
The town is very small yet beautiful and neat. It has lots of tourist attractions and good place to visit, just to unwind!
Endangered Species Centre.
