We were looking for the perfect place to have a family break for a few nights away in Dullstroom to do fly fishing and hiking with our dogs
When on Facebook we came across this property. The owners comment on my Facebook post about the dates we were wanting and what was more important Pet friendly.
This was our first time staying in Dullstroom and wanted something that ticked all the boxes. It was a pleasure dealing with Sue Ann.
We arrived Wednesday, we arrived mid day and we were met by Piet the owner of the Hartfell Farm who took us on a tour of the farm and dams and explained where to fish and what to use.
The accommodation of Searles cottage was amazing for what we had paid. A stunning private cottage with a stunning rustic farm feel. A large kitchen with lounge and dining area with a very warm cosy fire place.
2 bathrooms one on suite to the main room and the other 2 rooms were very spacious.
A large patio are with braai and a fenced of garden for the dogs. As well a carport for 2, 4x4 or high clearance vehicles.
There is a lovely lady who keeps the cottage clean every day for you.
The dams on where we fished where amazing with stunning nature and scenery. The fishing was tough but I managed to land 11 Rainbow Trout's over the 3 days I fished. Let's not count the ones we lost, which was a few.
Flies that worked well for me where the following:
Woolybugger black with a flash of blue
Woolybugger olive with orange bead
Fritz bugger white/chartreuse
Fritz bugger olive
I fished them as deep as possible with a sinking line and a 4x, 12-14ft leader fluro carbon
The dogs had a field day with running around and swimming and been one with nature.
This is the ideal place for any family and friend looking for a few days away and that love the outdoors.
If we had mountain bikes it would be amazing as well. We managed to do some birding and a photograph as well.
We highly recommend the Hartfell Farm
Important you need a high clearance vehicle or 4x4 for the dirt road to the farm as it maybe tricky
Beautiful setting. The cottage was clean and spacious. The lounge suite could be replaced as it is a little worn out but its not a huge issue. The oven however was not working properly which should be sorted. The area around the cottage is beautiful, but the dams were not stocked with fish. Don't plan to travel in and out too often as the road is not suitable for a normal vehicle.
Very nice stay.
the accommodation was lovely and spacious, clean and inviting.

Beautiful town with the loveliest shops. It's a Highlands destination in South Africa.
It's a little gem, where most is homemade and authentic. People are very humble, artistic and kind.
Always the best shops and best little restaurants
