Chumbe Island is a stunning, idyllic tropical island located about 6 km west of the larger island of Zanzibar and is about 30 km off the coast of Tanzania in East Africa. A short boat ride takes you to this beautiful, small, magical island where hospitality is not just a way of business, but a way of life!
The reserve includes a fully protected Coral Reef Sanctuary and Forest Reserve that harbour rare wildlife, a Visitor and Education centre, a small eco-lodge, nature walks, as well as historical monuments. All buildings and operations are based on state-of-the-art eco-technology, which aims at zero impact on the environment (rainwater catchment, photovoltaic energy and solar water heating, composting toilets, vegetative greywater filtration etc.).
Accommodation consists of stunning eco-bungalows, each with a queen-size bed in the sleeping area under the palm thatched roof, and a self-contained bathroom with a shower, wash basin and composting toilet.
