Solar: No noisy generators,we don t use electric pressure pumps so during loadshedding WE DO have hot & cold running water, wifi and lights.
Mountain Haven Guest House offers self-catering accommodation(Partially or fully powered by solar, so loadshedding disruption is minimal) in the beautiful town of Kaapsehoop, from which to explore and experience the waterfalls, magnificent views, and wildlife that the area is famous for.Or use as a base ,as we are central to most attractions in Mpumalanga. We are here to attend to your needs, whether it be to light your braai, give you directions to the most interesting places or tell you about the History of this fascinating early Gold Town once known as Duiwels Kantoor(Devil s Office) or maybe you d like to go on the Ghost Tour !
Malaria and Bilharzia Free.
There is Horse Riding and exciting 6 km down hill scooter rides, close by.Walk 10 minutes, you ll find battery Creek Falls ,30 metres high and a great place to cool off in the heat of the day,sit and meditate while the energy of the water drums onto the rocks and the spray gently caresses you,or stand beneath it and let it massage away the weariness of city life. The Pear Orchard (1 km) ,has braai s and a Dam ,with beautifully clear water, around 2 metres deep,(you can see right to the bottom) and is a great place to swim, picnic, play family sport or braai under the trees.
Explore galleries of gnarled rocks or caves, as you make your way to the edge of the escarpment (20 minutes walk away),where the earth drops a 1000 metres into the Barberton valley below. On a moonlit night, the local pass time, tipple and picnic blanket in hand,is to stroll up to the edge, where you can see the lights of Nelspruit and Barberton 30 kms away.Or go up to see the sun rise over the Swazi Mountains.
The village itself has restaurants, bars, antiques and craft shops. The Colonial style often interspersed with the quirky and esoteric,as many of the 120 or so locals are artists or crafts people.Watch out for the Wild Horses, they can sometimes give you a fright ,especially if they suddenly come looming out of the mist.No Spar or Petrol Station, the one small tuck shop we do have, may have bread, milk or your brand of cigarettes, so make sure you are well provisioned when you arrive, although the scenic drive down to Nelspruit is only about 20 minutes, with no robots or stop streets till you reach the City and it s convenient shopping Malls (almost one on every corner lol)
Accommodation is available in a variety of units, ranging from 2 to 6 sleepers, basic, but with everything you will need, each features an equipped kitchenette for preparing meals(Hot plate, microwave, toaster, kettle, bar fridge, crockery, cutlery and a whole range of utensils) and bathrooms fitted with a shower, a toilet and washbasin.linen is provided, but guests need supply their own towels. The units are in a lovely garden setting, with plenty of braai areas, where you can sit, relax and ponder the adventures of the day.

Very nice ambience, family friendly Makes you feel welcome especially Vince. Made our stay enjoyable.
Hosts were very friendly and helpful.
We had a wonderful two-night stay at Mountain Haven. Our room was exceptionally clean and very comfortable. The venue setting is simply stunning and in proximity to the local pubs and coffee shops so you can simply park your car and walk everywhere. We were also delighted with and made full use of, the communal braai and seating area. Vince is a great host and very knowledgeable about the area. Unfortunately, we ran out of time join his 'ghost tour', but this will be a definite on our next visit. Awesome venue. 10 out of 10!
We enjoyed a relaxing, week-long stay at Mountain Haven with our four year old.
Our host, Vince, was helpful and kind. A guided walk, humorous anecdotes regarding the surrounds and a ghost tour added a personal touch to our holiday.
The units are neat and well furnished with a bathroom and kitchenette. There are three rustic chilling spots in the garden where we spent hours with our daughter, colouring or resting after cycling and hiking outings.
Bring proper walking shoes, a wide rimmed hat and a walking stick if you are planning to explore the forests, waterfalls and escarpment.
Kaapschehoop is a tranquil getaway with beautiful scenery. Our cottage at Mountain Haven was comfortable and cozy. I am planning to visit again, soon!
