The Black Oystercatcher is a family-run wine farm at the the cool southernmost tip of Africa. The self-catering cottages offer a peaceful and tranquil getaway. Breathe in the fresh air, savour our wonderful fresh herb and vegetable garden, and enjoy the beautiful views over the Elim area, with a glass of wine, at our self-catering Bredasdorp accommodation. The four Black Oystercatcher Cottages are beautifully furnished with king-size beds or two single beds (PLEASE LET US KNOW BEFOREHAND OF YOUR PREFERENCE) and private bathrooms. Each cottage has an equipped kitchenette with a microwave but no oven. And for the chilly winter months two cottages feature an inside fireplace in the lounge area. Step outside onto a patio, with an expansive view, and make use of the braai area. All linen and towels are provided. And you’ll also have access to free Wi-Fi. The cottages overlook a wonderful fresh herb and vegetable garden, and you are welcome to pick some to spice up your meals. The cottages are set next door to the Black Oystercatcher tasting room and farm shop, on our safe working wine farm. So guests can enjoy a wine tasting and pre-book a platter for lunch at our venue, as well as enjoy some sweet and savoury snacks from our farm shop (subject to availability). The shop also offers a range of quality gifts - to spoil yourself or your loved ones. And in summer, make the most of our outdoor infinity pool to cool down, situated in front of the venue, and our natural landscape for cycling, hiking and other outdoor activities. Our cottages are in an open space, and are not enclosed or fenced in, to give you the full country experience. From here you have easy and quick access to the R43, taking you to Elim, Struisbaai or Bredasdorp. Relax and unwind with the perfect country getaway.

The Black Oystercatcher is found in the southernmost wine ward on the African continent, the Agulhas Wine Triangle.
The wine farm is situated close to the small missionary town of Elim, meaning ‘Place of God’. This historic town was founded in 1824, and is today still inhabited only by members of the Moravian church. The church building is based in the heart of Elim, and the town boasts a number of national heritage sites. Elim is home to the only monument in the country to commemorate the freeing of the slaves in 1834. It also has one of the last working water-mills in the Western Cape Province. Other towns situated close to the Elim wine ward include Bredasdorp, Agulhas, Struisbaai and Gansbaai.
Other sites to visit on the Agulhas Plain include the Cape Agulhas Lighthouse, the Waenhuiskrans Cave, the fisherman’s harbour in Arniston and many nature reserves in the area. For the more brave, don’t forget to go shark-cage diving at Gansbaai.

Our stay was enjoyable BUT WE WERE GIVEN INCORRECT INFORMATION BY AFRISTAY . We were told there was an OVEN and a STOVE and TV and DSTV , which were all absent .
It was lovely! Peaceful and quiet and great views of the countryside.
Very comfortable bed and everything we needed was there.
The stunning Alaskan Malamute came to visit us too. He spent about two hours with us and we adored him.
Maybe safety might be an issue. We were fine with the idea that's very open and close to the road (which is quite quiet), but other guests might not like it.
Unfortunately the indoor chimney didn't draw well and the cottage became full of smoke.
We had a lovely evening and it was sad to leave the lovely countryside and our cow friends in the field next to the cottages.
Thank you.
Enjoyed it. Rest for the soul and cottages has everything you need.

Great point from which to visit coastal towns of Arniston, Struisbaai and L'Agulhas.
