Welcome to the private mountain hideaway. Mount Serene is situated on the slopes of the Magaliesberg Mountains, about 30km from the town of Magaliesburg,on the R24; less than 100km from Johannesburg or Pretoria.
The accommodation units at Mount Serene are very well separated to ensure absolute privacy of guests at all times. Accommodation at Mount Serene consists of a family unit (The Coach) and Stone Cottage.
The family unit is built into a 1937 wooden railway carriage which has been renovated to accommodate a group of up to 8 people. It has 3 bedrooms, one with a double bed, one with 2 single beds and one with 2 bunk beds. There is a lounge, dining room, kitchen and modern bathroom, all well equipped for a comfortable, relaxing getaway.
Patios on both sides of the carriage ensure there is always a choice of sun or shade, as well as spectacular views and great sunsets. The private pool is for the use of the carriage guests only. All crockery, cutlery, bedding and towels are provided. Yes! Even the railway coach has a log fireplace in the lounge
The honeymoon cottage is made of solid stone from the Magaliesberg mountains, and built to accommodate a couple only. It comprises a bedroom with queen size bed, en suite bathroom with a 2 seater bathtub and double shower over the bath, plus a kitchen, dining room and lounge. A sliding door leads to a patio with private splash pool, braai and stunning view of the Magaliesberg cliffs, towering 350m higher than the cottage. This is the ultimate in privacy. If you wish to see anyone else during your stay here you will have to go out and look for them. All crockery, cutlery, bedding and towels are provided.
Whether you choose to relax at the pool side at Mount Serene, walk to the mountain plateau, explore iron-age ruins, hike to the top of the Magaliesberg moutains or identify some of the 300 species of birds found in the area, you are guaranteed a peaceful break from the city life.
There are many recreational and sporting facilities close by, including game drives, horse riding, trout fishing, golf, tennis, quadbiking, magalies meande and hot air ballooning to name but a few!

What a beautiful place. We are staying in the Stone Cottage. It is SO peaceful. The cottage has everything you could possibly need, the garden and bush is beautiful. We've had lovely walks. It is an absolute must if you need to recharge. We cannot wait to come here again.

The weather is very warm and the roads are drivable with clear road makings and road signs.
We were in Mooinooi. it is a quiet small farmstyle place. The roads are neglected. The small shopping centre is enough for just getting what you need.

I stayed in town, enjoyed the warmth of the people. The municipality though should upgrade the roads.
