Welcome to Owlhouse Backpackers,
A quiet, cosy lodge in an established Nieu Bethesda garden, the Owlhouse Backpackers reflects one of its previous lives as the Buddist meditation centre.
Sip sundowners in the garden, watching the sky light up with stars, or curl up next to the wood-burner, enjoying the carefully selected backpackers’ wines. Treat yourself to the home-made bread and cottage cheese while braaing some delicious Nieu Bethesda Karoo lamb. If you don’t fancy cooking, Ian and Katrin, your well-travelled hosts, can provide breakfast, a packed lunch and/or dinner from locally produced meat and veggies, or point you to the best eateries around town.
Environmentally conscious, the Owlhouse Backpackers is the one of the few establishments in Nieu Bethesda making use of solar geysers, compost toilets and grey water recycling. All rubbish is separated and as much as possible composted on site.
The Owlhouse Backpackers can accommodate 80 guests. Pets are welcome by arrangement.

We had a lovely stay at Owlhouse Backpackers. We arrived after a long drive and we were delighted that we had been upgraded to our own cottage which overlooked opened to a little garden which was perfect as we were travelling with my dog. They were very accommodating to us with our dog and the fact that we left at the crack of dawn. The lady at the front desk was very helpful and gave us a map of the town and explained everywhere that we should see and even recommended a place for dinner. It was a perfect halfway stop between Cape Town and Joburg.

The Bushman Heritage Museum is a world class museum in addition to perfect quality gifts of quilts, pictures, amazing pillow cases and bags. The Tower B and B is excellent accommodation and food in quiet surroundings with remarkable landscape. Descendants of the bushmen tell you their amazing myths. Unforgettable.
