*Hitgeheim Country Lodge is well situated in the Eastern Cape which features one of the best climates in the country and is close to the well-known Addo Elephant Park and other Big 5 Game Reserves.
*The name Hitgeheim is derived from our surname Hitge - "Home or place of the Hitge Family" - German, in Dutch it's known as "Big Secret", hence Addo's luxurious secret. The Hitge family relocated to Addo from Oudtshoorn in 1990 and purchased this 238-hectare property of pristine Uitenhage Bushveld in 1999 with the vision of developing an exclusive thatched lodge.
*It took them nearly two years to finalize the building plans and another two years to complete the first 4 of the now 8 chalets. During their final year of construction, they started training local unemployed people in the hospitality industry.
The most successful candidates were employed by Hitgeheim Country Lodge. This led to more in-house training courses at Hitgeheim.
*The Hitge family prides themselves on putting something back into the community through training and supporting local charity organisations. Hitgeheim Country Lodge opened its doors in October 2003 and the rest is history.

As a part of our Honeymoon we went for a retreat at Hitgeheim lodge. Archie and all his staff were exeptional hosts! The view from the restaurant and the beutifully furnished rooms were unbelievable. Unlucky for us we went in the height of summer and one day it reach 41 degrees celsius thankfully the room was airconditionned and we enjoyed our stay even inthe extreme heat! WE will most definitely go back and enjoy their very tasty menu from the restaurant!
we highly recommend the scotio tooth and claw safari it truly was a treat and waiting at the lodge was a cup of lovely hot chocolate before we fell sublimely to sleep!

So many things to do! Visited the Elephant Park and saw hundreds of elephants! The privacy and peacefulness was wonderful. My fisherman husband didn't miss his fishing rod at all! The hot tub was a bit hot with all of us.
The quad biking and river safari.
Addo elephants are an experience not to be missed.
I loved the safe roads and the animals, especially the elephants.I also liked the nice shop to buy memorabilia.I also stayed close by at Avoca and this was five star treatment.I loved the tranquility and good host Riaan.
What an amazing haven to unwind and relax. Everything is Eco friendly and the staff are living examples of this. All the food was organic and delicious. The rooms are clean and comfy, The natural pool was beautiful and the location is close to the Addo Elephant National Park. We would definitely come back! Thank you for our amazing stay🙏
Beautiful scenery and very peaceful.
The animals are not scared of the vehicles travelling near them. We experienced some real magic moments in Addo.
