Hartbeespoort, (meaning “pass of the hartebeest” -a species of antelope in Afrikaans), a small holiday town, is also affectionately known as Harties. The town is situated close to the Hartbeespoort dam wall, and the villages of Kosmos, Melodie, Ifafi and Meerhof can be found alongside its banks. Hartbeespoort was previously known as Schoemansville, after General Hendrik Schoeman.
Hartbeespoort is located in the North East of the North West Province on the route to Sun City, and is within an hours travel from the greater Gauteng area, and is only 15kms from Lanseria International Airport and 80kms from OR Tambo International Airport.
"Not only is it less than an hours drive from Pretoria or Johannesburg, the weather all year round is probably the best in the world, and unlike most of the major holiday destinations where you end up back in the city, you are out in an idyllic bushveld setting where majestic Magaliesburg mountains add to the breathtaking beauty of the area.
Visit Hartbeespoort if it is romance or an adrenaline fix you are after, or if you want to interact with Africa’s greatest treasure, our abundant wild life.
You can experience the old, at the nearby Maropeng, or shop until you drop at the flea markets and malls in the area.
Then again if you are interested in the arts or local culture or history, well, there is more than enough to keep you busy, alternatively, if need to rejuvenate your mind, body or spirit, the spas in the area will cater to your every whim.
Come and discover the best kept secret, and find yourself “Close to the city out of this world”.
Climate
Hartbeespoort has almost year-round sunshine. Summer temperatures range, on average, between 16º C and 29º C, with afternoon thunderstorms from August to March. Although the winter nights can be cold and drop to below freezing, the average daytime temperature from May to July is 19º C."

"Magaliesburg is situated in the Bojanala region of the North West Province and is an ideal retreat for those looking for a quiet break after the hustle and bustle of city life. Approximately an hour away from Johannesburg and Pretoria, this enchanting, peaceful and beautiful area provides all the necessary to make every visitors holiday a special one. Home to a variety of bird-life, indigenous woodlands and attractive mountains and rivers, Magaliesburg is a delight to visit.
Meandering through the town there is a multitude of artistic pottery, sculpture and other crafting shops around. This is not to mention the number of spas and wellness centres which tourists can experience."

"The Cradle of Humankind, one of eight World Heritage Sites in South Africa, and the only one in Gauteng, is renowned as the place where humankind originated. It is here that the first hominid, Australopithecus, was found in 1924 at Taung in the North West Province by Professor Raymond Dart of the University of the Witwatersrand. And is one of the major tourist attractions in South Africa.
The Cradle of Humankind area boasts 13 excavation sites that are recognised as national heritage sites, both internationally and by the South African Heritage Resources Agency. For those wanting to experience the birthplace of humankind firsthand, the official visitor centres for the Cradle of Humankind, Maropeng and the Sterkfontein Caves, are within an easy hour’s drive from Johannesburg."

Awesome 👌
Kind owner's.
Place is very clean and very relaxing, will go back any day just for a time out of the city. Food is so delicious.
Daniel and Leila welcomed us with a smile. We had peace of mind, no noise.
My elderly mother had minor heart surgery and I decided that she needed some fresh air in a tranquil setting, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Stone Hounds Lodge promised that. Fresh air, nature, stars, no TV and no wifi. At first the no TV no wifi concerned me, being a workaholic and having no idea of how I would keep my mother entertained for three days. Wow, what a refreshing experience. It allowed my mom and I to reconnect and chat for hours on end, breathe in fresh air and watch the birds, the bunnies and the cats, go for short walks and just relax. Something neither of us had done in years. Our hosts, Leila and Danie were friendly accommodating and spoiling us rotten. Mom's recovery was miraculous. In three days the colour in her face changed and she felt ready to face the world again. I can recommend Stone Hound Lodge to anyone who just needs a break. Thank you. Hannetjie and Corrie.
